Still Waters Posted August 17, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 17, 2013 Atop one large foothill here deep in the Carolina woods lies a most unlikely site: a castle, replete with a drawbridge, portcullis — and an underground bunker. The castle is the handiwork of a family aiming to protect itself from an electromagnetic pulse (EMP), which they think could take out electricity grids. So they're going medieval, training to use crossbows and building a catapult to defend themselves against marauders that might come in a doomsday scenario. http://news.yahoo.co...-180832273.html http://www.dailymail...--Carolina.html

Odin11 Posted August 17, 2013 #3 Share Posted August 17, 2013 Like the people were saying in the comments in the links, in a real attack this "castle" would not last a day. It looks cool, but going by the pictures it does not look like it was built to withstand an attack.

brlesq1 Posted August 20, 2013 #5 Share Posted August 20, 2013 Don't think it'll make it. The walls aren't thick enough.
Likely Guy Posted August 20, 2013 #6 Share Posted August 20, 2013 National Geo is making reality shows now, really?!
Odin11 Posted August 20, 2013 #7 Share Posted August 20, 2013 National Geo is making reality shows now, really?! They were the last good channel too, now they're going down hill. First The Learning Channel was taken over by reality shows, then The History Channel, then The Discovery Channel, now The National Geographic Channel. It’s really sad to see all of the good, smart shows that use to be on these channels get replaced with mind numbing crap.
The Silver Thong Posted August 20, 2013 #8 Share Posted August 20, 2013 Sege tactic, starve them out. Or launch a few dead cows at it lol
Odin11 Posted August 20, 2013 #9 Share Posted August 20, 2013 (edited) Sege tactic, starve them out. Or launch a few dead cows at it lol You would not want to starve them out because you would want the food they have. A single stick of dyamite,or even a pipe bomb, would open up a wall or window to get in. Or even easier would be to just set a huge fire next to it and smoke them out. The woods goes right up next to the "castle" with no clear zone around the "castle" it would be easy to use the woods for cover and get up next to it. ------------------------------------- In my opinion, doomsday preppers are not too bright. Yes, it’s smart to be prepared in case there is a disaster, but the length and time these people put in to it far outweighs the benefits. It would be more efficient to study assault tactics and strategies to take the stockpiles from preppers then to do all the work yourselves. Edit to add: I'm watching the show right now and they just showed the "castle" from a top view, and the thing only has like 2-3 pillars in it to hold up the roof, the walls have zero support and the whole thing is tall and open on the inside. Its like he looked up how the make a castle and did the opposite. Edited August 20, 2013 by Odin11
