Still Waters Posted August 27, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 27, 2013 A 15-year-old herder has died in Kyrgyzstan of bubonic plague - the first case in the country in 30 years - officials say. The teenager appears to have been bitten by an infected flea. The authorities have sought to calm fears of an epidemic and have quarantined more than 100 people. Bubonic plague, known as the Black Death when it killed an estimated 25 million people in Europe during the Middle Ages, is now rare. http://www.bbc.co.uk...d-asia-23843656

questionmark Posted August 28, 2013 #3 Share Posted August 28, 2013 The BP pops up in central Asia from time to time. The last affected did not die and got infected by eating a sick (infected) camel. And no, bacillus that have a resistant carrier (certain Mongol ground squirrels) will never die out.

seaturtlehorsesnake Posted August 28, 2013 #5 Share Posted August 28, 2013 (edited) wait, are we talking about the article, or quoting camus in here? that is so sad, though, and a little scary. the idea of catching some otherwise mostly vanished disease, and dying because no one thinks that it would be that. edit: heh, i just noticed your title thing up there...
