Yes. It's a "jellied" form of gasoline I think and is best dispersed in the air but it can be detonated at ground level. Horribly cruel stuff - almost as bad as White Phosphorous. A school... intentionally immolating school children...

War, by it's very nature is cruel.. and this one in Syria, no different.. i think that all sides (and their backers) in this horiffic war can and should accept responsibity for the carnage that took place in this school..

Sad, tired AND incorrect. WMD are Weapons of Mass Destruction. As in - kill MANY people and quickly. Nukes, chemicals biologicals... THESE are WMD. Those airburst white phosphorus shells are outlawed for use against human targets but not for use as "smoke screens". Notice all the smoke? That's what those are used for - to create concealment for troops so the enemy cannot aim as effectively at them when they are moving in the open. WP is a ghastly substance when it's used on the ground against flesh. Even then it wasn't considered WMD - just cruel. But Israel has no right to make war regardless what their enemies do to them, right? Typical anti Israel rant.

As this appears to be one munition, then it is more likely it was dropped from a plane, and this would be an unguided munition. I don't see any reports that an aircraft was seen ovehead when this attack happened, and it would have been noticable due to the noise. Main delivery system for napalm or thermobaric munitions would be by rocket launchers. A launch from one of these would be noticable, unless fired from one of the larger systems from a long distance, way outside Damascus and would not be noticed. Seems odd to fire one rocket though when the bigger of these systems can take out most of a city block.
