The point is, a $20,000 exemption does not help the wealthy but is very important to the poor. You keep the simplicity and minor bookwork of a flat tax but in fact it is graduated.

Yeah, I think I could agree to something like that assuming all loopholes were closed. Now if we could just do something to curb defense spending maybe we could lower our debt

You're objective then is to just take the rich's money. Figures.

Taxes need to be taken by those who actually have money.

Just keep the tax from destroying this wealth and be sure it is such that the wealthy can't escape it (such as by moving overseas or going underground -- good luck with this). By the way, income taxes don't work very well because if you tax income too highly it become unprofitable to take the risks needed to generate income, and investment dries up.
