Just want to add one thing:

The so-called Burning Chamber, so-named for the flaming torches that lined the walls and its victims who would later be set afire at the stake, originated in 1535 under Francis I as an inquisitional court for the prosecution of heretics. But the tribunal really kicked into lethal gear during the reign of Frances’ demented son, Henry II.

Henry was one of the most depraved figures in an era known for its regal brutality. He was, by all accounts, an insipid man, of limited intellect and charm, a bigot and sexual sadist, who was driven by a rabid hatred of the French Calvinists known as the Huguenots. Henry viewed the Huguenots as a “foreign contagion” infecting the homeland, and issued a series of increasingly severe Edicts calling on the Parliament of Paris to enact laws that would extinguish the Protestant threat. When the Parliament refused to act, Henry, enraged, moved on his own authority, using the Chambre Ardente as his covert prosecutorial instrument.

Before the sequestered judges of the secret court, all suspects were presumed guilty, awaiting only sentencing. Calvinist books and Bibles were proscribed. Thousands were cast into dungeons, their property seized as property of the king, their bodies subjected to vile tortures: gouged eyes, cropped ears, tongues extracted by glowing pliers—the usual menu of medieval atrocities. The condemned were carted away by the hundreds to the Place Maubert and set ablaze for the edification of the public.

While it is true, about the barbarity of the persecution of the Huguenots, Henry II was not a sexual sadist or mentally unbalanced. Don't really know where that part came from.... But anyways, good article, and makes a good point.

The lesson is that if the executive branch was practicing tyranny and suppression in 1675, we should not be surprised that it is doing so in 2013. Shows how far from constitutional governance we are when the legislative and executive branches repeal Habeas Corpus in public view.

Instead of calling for more amendments or a constitutional convention, we should be calling for strict enforcement of the existing constitution.

As our elected representatives nullify the Fourth Amendment and nullify Habeas Corpus, we are busy pretending they have our best interests at heart.

What a terrific Bankster’s Orwellian police state utopia we have created, we have Stop and Frisk with mandated Constitution Free-zone FISA courts, and with the right local permits Americans are allowed (under constant FBI surveillance of course) to dissent in designated Free Speech zones.

But who needs liberty when we got the new Apple IO7 with neat fingerprint id sensor, bet you that the NSA must be drooling on that swell feature!

The democratic principles that this great nation once espoused have been trashed. If the American Founding fathers were alive today they would be advocating revolution and be labeled terrorists! They would be leading patriots like these in this video:
