Big Bad Voodoo Posted September 23, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 23, 2013 It is “the community” that should give back to the wealth-creators. It turns out that the 99% get far more benefit from the 1% than vice-versa. http://www.forbes.com/sites/harrybinswanger/2013/09/17/give-back-yes-its-time-for-the-99-to-give-back-to-the-1/
Einsteinium Posted September 23, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 23, 2013 It is “the community” that should give back to the wealth-creators. It turns out that the 99% get far more benefit from the 1% than vice-versa. http://www.forbes.co...-back-to-the-1/ Yes, if only it was true that the majority of the 1% were ethical, moral upstanding citizens who pass countless blessings of knowledge and efficiency down to the 99% who benefit from it. If only it were true- such a society would be a beacon of hope for everyone everywhere living in corrupt societies around the world. Yes it is true, that some of the 1% have given society countless new blessings of efficiency and new technology that has made life easier for the 99%. But we don't owe them a goddamn thing besides our own work and our own effort. The article states that only the likes of Al Capone and Bernie Madoff swindle the masses. HA! What stupidity, you really think that corruption is not rampant at the top? Do you really think that graft and pull do not play just a big a role in creating new millionaires as invention and innovation? Even the ones who do create wealth through innovation and invention rely on the 99% for their wealth. Who buy's the new ipods and iphones? Who buys the gasoline that enriches the oil companies? The 99% by a vast majority buy these things and that money pays the salaries of the 1%. And this article claims we owe them? We owe them nothing, just as they owe us nothing. We trade with each other to mutual benefit they say. But who gets the lions share of this 'mutual benefit'?
StarMountainKid Posted September 23, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 23, 2013 Is the OP's link a joke? I like satire as much as anyone, and this piece is pretty funny. Well, I think these 1% guys already have everything. I mean, what do they care what the 99% think of them? I don't think it would matter much to them if the rest of us bowed down to them in adulation. From what I read, they consider us surfs, lackeys and minions anyway; I do admire Henry Ford and Steve Jobs and the like, and the result of their efforts, but raising them to the level of Gods is not a good idea. Who is this author guy anyway? A believer in Ayn Rand's economic philosophy. Lord help the 99% if this guy is taken seriously.

little_dreamer Posted September 23, 2013 #7 Share Posted September 23, 2013 "An end must be put to the inhuman practice of draining the productive to subsidize the unproductive. An end must be put to the primordial notion that one’s life belongs to the tribe, to “the community,” and that the superlative wealth-creators must do penance for the sin of creating value. And Ayn Rand is just the lady who can do it." Ayn Rand is as dead as a doornail, though. I guess he means her idea of free-market capitalilsm with minimal regulation.
Leonardo Posted September 23, 2013 #8 Share Posted September 23, 2013 And beneath that lies the perverted Marxist notion that wealth is accumulated by “exploiting” people, not by creating value... Ah, yes... "creating value". That great capitalist sound-bite about creating nothing and calling that "value". Anyone can have an idea ("creating value") but to turn that idea into a reality requires a lot of work - not only (or necessarily) by the one who has the idea, but by lots and lots of other people. Now, I'm not going to suggest all those other people are 'exploited', but it is their work that underpins the reward the entrepreneur collects from making the idea a reality. So, it's not so Marxist after all - it is simply an example of the pyramidal capitalist heirarchy at work.

DecoNoir Posted September 23, 2013 #11 Share Posted September 23, 2013 (edited) I get the point of the article, and that not all those who are successful are a bunch of douchmongers, but then they ruined it in the second paragraph with Henry Ford. Seriously, even glancing at Wikipedia will tell you Ford was practically a cartoon villain version of a capitalist. After that the rest of the article reads like something from The Onion. Big Bad Voodoo And Bush granpa. Big Bad Voodoo This picture seems more accurate of a communist system or fascism or socialist or crony capitalism. You know the systems were you are FORCED to hold people up. Your actions are voluntary in a capitalist system. in the other system your actions and money is taken by forced to hold up people. It always amazes me how other systems try to act like capitalism is the exploiter when the other systems are the one forcing people to do something. Im sure this picture was made as propaganda back in the day. Edited September 23, 2013 by spartan max2

Raptor Witness Posted September 24, 2013 #15 Share Posted September 24, 2013 It's the 1% who sit idly by while the military industrial complex bleeds U.S. to death. You can't blame the 99% for these lies. It's bad enough to spend such large sums of money on undeclared wars, but if you follow the money trail, guess where it leads within the military industrial complex? The trees we can clearly see, but the forest we're ignoring is an intelligence community that has become an independent power, operating outside the system of checks and balances, which the framers of the Constitution clearly envisioned. That abuse of power now includes our privacy, which you cannot put a price on. Source In October, 2005 the New York Times reported that Robert J. Hanvok, a historian for the U.S. National Security Agency, had concluded that the NSA deliberately distorted the intelligence reports that it had passed on to policy-makers regarding the August 4, 1964 Tonkin Vietnam incident. - Source Then the same thing happened in Iraq, with the CIA's false assessments of Iraq's nuclear capabilities and links to Al-Qaeda. So it should come as no surprise that in Edward Snowden's recently released documents highlighting the rapidly inflating black budgets of the NSA and CIA, that the very two entities caught lying in these two fraudulent undeclared wars are who are directly profiting from the abuse of our Constitution. ON top of all this, the vast data mining projects begun by the NSA that will later include the capability to surveil all Americans took place as a direct result of the Iraq War. So this lie has led to series of others. The Real Time Regional Gateway was a data collection program introduced in 2005 in Iraq by NSA during the Iraq War. It consisted of gathering all Iraqi electronic communication, storing it, then searching and otherwise analyzing it. It was effective in providing information about Iraqi insurgents who had eluded less comprehensive techniques. Glenn Greenwald of The Guardian believes that the "collect it all" strategy introduced by NSA director Alexander shows that "the NSA's goal is to collect, monitor and store every telephone and internet communication" worldwide. - Source Do I trust the NSA? I trust Heat Miser(6/2/13) ... who follows Mr. Snowden.(6/5/13)
rodentraiser Posted September 26, 2013 #16 Share Posted September 26, 2013 Pretty relevant picture, considering the gap between the rich and the poor is at its greatest since the 1920s. I wouldn't want to raise taxes on the 1% if they'd only pay the taxes they should. Like, you know, on those off shore accounts. The 1% are currently paying taxes at a rate not seen since the 1950s. Are any of you paying taxes at say, a 1955 rate? Not me. And then there's all those tax deductions and the loopholes and.....well, y'all get my drift here.
