Can you explain what ` student experiments,` are?

They are quite literally experiments by school and university students. They propose experiments to be flown in space. A panel of scientists judge the experiments and the winning designs are built and flown to the ISS.

The core of this project is aimed at US school pupils grade 5-12, but there are also opportunities for colleges and universities and for ESA, EU, Canadian and Japanese students.
