US braces for possible government shutdown

Again... statements and mentality such as what you posted above make you part of the problem... not the solution. I consider myself to be a conservative.... but I am open minded about it. Rush Limbough is arrogant, objective and unmoving when it comes to the harsh reality of whats going on in this country. In order to fix this country and the issues we have right now you cant sit on one side of the fence or the other. It is far beyond time that we kick the fence down and try to make PROGRESS. We cant do that as a country as long as the citizens play into the political bias game that the media sets up for us.

Harry Reid loves the fence.

Harry Reid Strategy: Don't Give An Inch

There goes your pie in the sky progress.

The best progress we had was when the Sequester went into effect. :tu:

Now we need another Sequester. - 2% more across the board -

In the DC area during this government shutdown?

This may be of some interest to you:

"Across Washington — the site of the political paralysis — commercial establishments sought ways to try to minimize the impact of a shutdown that will hit harder here than anywhere else. Late Monday night, several bars and restaurants in the area started advertising “shutdown specials” for those who wandered in.

At Z-Burger, a popular hamburger restaurant in the Washington area, owners pledged to make good on their promise for a free burger for every furloughed federal worker. In a Twitter post, it said: “AlmostHere IF #GovernmentShutdown #FREE #Burgers." [source: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/10/02/us/politics/us-government-shutdown.html?_r=0] (if the link doesn't work for you when you click on it, just copy and paste the link into your browser).

The best burgers are the free ones; however, I don't live in the DC area.

Last night, Newt said Democrat Tip O'Neil shut down the government 12 times!

This too shall pass.

Obama will be forced to drop kick ObamaCare 1 year into the future. He is just waiting for the polling data.

Harry Reid may lose control of the senate!

Maybe China will repossess the USA.

Maybe the American people will listen to Speaker Boehner spell out the truth about where we are.

Problem Defined: ObamaCare

About 35% of government workers are unionized. So about 1 in 3. Unions supporting that 1 might convince the other 2 to unionize though.....

And to be honest, I always expected them to shutdown the government. If not for this then perhaps for the debt ceiling or some other issue. The attitude of congress lately has been, "My way, or we burn the country down!" After listening to the news and even some people here on the forum, it seems that a lot of people just plain want to shut the government down regardless.

I thought Union membership would be higher. I guess Unions ARE on the way out.....

It seems most Conservative Radio and TV shows are saying that everyone is acting like Babies. I don't watch/listen to Liberal TV so I'm not sure what is being said there. Anyone?

Yeah, that bothered me. There was no discussion at all, just infantile, "NO! NO! NO! NO!".

I figure both sides will give in enough to get the government back up and running before the majority of americans realize the government shutdown doesn't affect them.

They will do this so we don't figure out the country runs fine or even better without them because the way I see it every day the government is shut down it's another crack in the

false wall of power they have built around themselves. the media will beg for them to compromise because again it makes all the crap they shovel on us everyday about how every

time a senator takes a dump it effects millions of Americans sound kind of hollow.

I think it is going to be a while. If the Dems give up too soon, it will be seen as a win for the Reps. Even 2 weeks will be too long however for the Reps to claim victory, as the Public will quickly get Angry due to incitment by the Media.

Yeah...when they pause to take the thumb out of their mouth they are crying,"Screw you guys... I'm taking my ball home".

If your neighbour's house is on fire, you worry if yours will catch light too.

And worse, where will all the homeless Yanks go? Won't be Mexico.

No SirWearer,

acidhead lives in the US forums apparently. I'm just wondering if he's an expat. No Canadian cares this much about American issues!

Neighbourly regards,

Likely Guy :)

Actually - the 17th is when I suspect that everything is going to happen.

I expect that the Reps are planning to punt until then, because that's the date that Gov runs out of money, and they're going to use that as the big stick with which to make whatever demands they wish. They should be able to weather it out that far.

I don't think either side has any idea what they are going to do, nor does either side appreciate the seriousness of the situation. They are being politicians to the core, without any statesmanship. I just have to say this is so typical of the consequences of the ideology of democracy.

Well some sort of intervention is needed. Canada and Britain and maybe Australia and Jamaica are the best choices to do it.

Well that's just peachy. And the Republicans want to delay Obamacare. Also just peachy. That is what they want to do, but neither has any idea what to do.

Okay America, sit down, take a big breath and count to ten. Remember, don't go to bed angry. :)

I expect they both have game plans.

If I had to guess - I'd say that the Republican plan is to take the govt over the edge into full default, and the Democratic plan is to let them.
