cormac mac airt Posted October 1, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 1, 2013 Another victim of Thera's eruption is now coming to light: Archaeologists working on Iasos on Turkey’s Aegean coast have recently discovered that the ancient city was buried under a mountain of ash caused by the explosion of Mt. Thera on Santorini 3,600 years ago.Excavation works have also revealed a sewage system that was in place in the 4,000-year-old city and tunnels to the city’s theater. http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/ancient-city-of-iasos-rises-out-of-the-ashes.aspx?pageID=238&nID=55343&NewsCatID=375 cormac
seaturtlehorsesnake Posted October 2, 2013 #2 Share Posted October 2, 2013 ok, now that's pretty neat. ancient sewage systems might not be the most romantic thing, i mean, you aren't going to see people insisting that sewage systems must have been built by super advanced shape shifting aliens, but i like hearing about them. they seem simple, but when you think about what kind of planning they involve, they stand as good proof of the fact that people have always been as intelligent and capable as we are now.
