DeWitz Posted October 2, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 2, 2013 As we creep into October, Halloween hauntings will crawl onto our film, TV, laptop, phone and other platform screens. As I get older it gets harder to be truly engaged in, much less frightened by, the horror film. I end up going back, again and again, to some of the "oldies but goodies" (as you will see from my choices below). No volume of blood nor gore can compete, in my view, with the chilling ambiance of a scary story well-filmed. Please share your favorite "horror/terror/ghost/supernatural films in this thread. Lead me down some paths of unrighteous dread, for the sake of shaking up the Halloween season once again. Both my categories and choices are subjective, meant as conversation starters only. . . A: True, all around horror, shocks and chills: 1) The Exorcist (uncut version), 1973 2) Night of the Living Dead, 1968 3) The Thing, 1982 B: Classics (here for the atmosphere): 1) Frankenstein, 1931 2) Dracula, 1931 3) Invasion of the Body Snatchers, 1955 C: Cheap thrills 1) The Brain That Wouldn't Die, 1960 2) Friday the 13th, 1980 3) Mr. Sardonicus, 1961 HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Insanity Posted October 3, 2013 #6 Share Posted October 3, 2013 There are a number of films derived from Lovecraft's Mythos; Re-Animator (1985), starring Jeffrey Combs From Beyond (1986), starring Jeffrey Combs Cthulhu (2007), based more on The Shadow Over Innsmouth, as was the previously mentioned Dagon The Dunwich Horror (1970) In the Mouth of Madness (1995), starring Sam Neil The H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society has done adaptations of two stories; The Call of Cthulhu (2005) which was a in the style of a silent black and white film, and The Whisperer in Darkness (2011).

DeWitz Posted July 30, 2014 Author #14 Share Posted July 30, 2014 I personally would prefer movies with good monster women. Yeah! -- But you forgot Sally Incisor with the vagina dentata (see the film "Teeth").
Likely Guy Posted July 31, 2014 #15 Share Posted July 31, 2014 (edited) Real 'horror' depends on the viewer, beit moths, snakes, spiders, birds, bats, sharks, etc. That's just the real critters. The paranormal is a real fixation for other afficienados, for some it's about serial killings or cannibalism. It's all about 'what turns your crank' or, 'gets your freak on'... What's horror to one is sometimes mundane to another. Edited July 31, 2014 by Likely Guy
CuriousRey Posted July 31, 2014 #16 Share Posted July 31, 2014 Haven't seen this one posted yet but I watch it mostly for comedy relief. "Motel Hell", I haven't seen it in a while but I used to watch it often with my father as it always made us laugh.

Sir Smoke aLot Posted August 1, 2014 #19 Share Posted August 1, 2014 'Event Horizon' 'Red Sands' 'The Ninth Gate' and mentioned ' The Exorcist '. Those are kind of horror movies which are frightening to me. The unknown, the unseen.
Sucksquach Posted August 1, 2014 #20 Share Posted August 1, 2014 Yeah! -- But you forgot Sally Incisor with the vagina dentata (see the film "Teeth"). Yeah! That! How could I forget. "Horror" - anything which horrifies us, sometimes disgusts us, gets the sympathetic system of the body going just by watching.... maybe that.

StRoostifer Posted August 2, 2014 #24 Share Posted August 2, 2014 About a week ago I finally got around to watching Insidious 2 and was pleasantly surprised. I actually liked it better than the first , which I thought was cool. I love the astral projection take in the films and its why I was interested in the films in the first place.
