Hi-tech Bionic Man leaves British shores for

EnderOTD

Recommended Posts

A replica of the human body, dubbed the Bionic Man, is to leave the UK for the first time and take up temporary residence in the US.

The Bionic Man is a robot that showcases how far technology has come in replicating the human body.

The body was put together by the Shadow Robotics company using artificial limbs and organs borrowed from the laboratories of leading scientists from as far afield as New Zealand and San Francisco.

Almost every component is taken from existing medical research or existing medical technology.

Boy, this cost a lot less than Steve Austin did back in the '80s.

SyFy had a Joe Rogan Questions Everything where a female robot was holding a converstion and sounded fairlt human in voice and attitude. "She" aspires to be a real person at some point. Talk about a Pinocchio complex!

They will surely have to spend another million dollars to create "Eve", else he might get lonely and become a robot serial rapist. :passifier:

I can tell you right now that sentence will be the scariest thought of the day. We'd need to build robot cops to chase this thing down.

I can imagine myself going to a store that sells extra body parts and asking the shop owner: "Hey, Frank I'm looking for a nice eyeball."

But I don't see the contemporary bionic man leaping 6 feet into the air and dashing at incredible speeds, more like hobbling along slower than my grandmother using a walker and jumping nigh nothing. I saw that episode of Joe Rogan Questions Everything as well, really creepy situation there. I found it more creepy that the women that developed that robot based the design and likeness off of her deceased lover. Just creep show material.

I think the whole project is just focusing on using current medical technology to showcase the strides that medical science has come with prosthetics and artificial organs.

It's a robot. There's nothing "bionic" about it because there is no 'biology' involved.

Well that was dumb.

Thank you for your input. Do you think that any of this technology has helped people to cope with their physical shortcomings at all? or are you just commenting to say something negative?

That robot is weak. It's nothing compared to the DARPA terminators. They'll be selling this thing at Best Buy soon.

Who said anything about this technology not helping people? I said that there is nothing BIONIC involved.

Apparently you lack a dictionary.

So, where is the biology of this creation?

"The word bionic was coined by Jack E. Steele in 1958, possibly originating from the technical term bion (pronounced bee-on) (from Ancient Greek: βίος), meaning 'unit of life' and the suffix -ic, meaning 'like' or 'in the manner of', hence 'like life'. Some dictionaries, however, explain the word as being formed as a portmanteau from biology + electronics."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bionics

You believe that it merely has to be 'life like' while I believe the latter.

Your right though, I shouldn't have brought that up in the first place, knee jerk attack on my part. My bad.

Like I said, we're both right in a way. Over defensive on my part, my bad.
