Grim Reaper and Dark Figures?

I was on the bus on the way to high school when I looked out the window only to see a cloaked figure. It looked like it was a skeleton in a black robe. I tried to show my friend but she said that she didn't see anything. I haven't seen the figure since, but a month before this happened a dark figure dashed towards me when i was in bed. I don't know why this is happening but could any one explain this?

Peripheral vision is untrustworthy, and you believe in the supernatural, so when you saw something you didn't understand you went to an entity of some kind.

Dunno about what you saw on the bus, but dark figures been seen in bed are a known phenomenon. I speak from experience when I say that I see shadows, shadowy figures, figures in robes, etc. on a semi-regular basis when trying to get to sleep or (more often) having just woken up from sleep. The body is somewhat awake but the mind is still in REM sleep and you experience the odd sensation of knowing you're awake but seeing vivid hallucinations of things that aren't there because in another sense you aren't quite awake.

Google for articles about "sleep paralysis" and "hynopompic hallucinations" to find some interesting resources and accounts from people who have experienced this kind of thing. It can be reassuring to know that what you see/hear/feel during sleep is not ghosts and demons but a normal but rare experience some people deal with. I get enough of these hallucinations that I've simply learned to live with them and learned to deal with the voices in my head during the night, the hands trying to strangle me when I'm half asleep, the shadowy figures walking around my bedroom when I wake up in the middle of the night and the spiders and flies crawling in swarms on my walls during the night. The audio, visual and tactile sensations can be unnervingly real despite the fact that they aren't.

I wish something would visit me in my bed. Don't even care if it's the grim reaper. I'd prefer summat with a pulse though. And maybe a nice tan.

This thread brings to my mind something I've wondered about, although not seriously. If one cannot ever see the grim reaper until it's your time, how do we know he exists?

I think it's the lore involved. In some lore seeing the grim reaper means it's your time, but in some other lores other things can happen. Like dodging, tricking, or bribing Grim to get away. Or seeing Grim might not mean your death, but rather that you saw him on his way to do other business. Sometimes death isn't instant. Sometimes it seems like Grim isn't really death itself, but rather the escort of the dead.

It's part of the fun of death lore- there seems to be a story for every angle.

The Grim Reaper is just a personification of the phenomenon of death; 'tis an allegorical figure, rather than an actual entity.

I smudge my house regularly, to keep it cleansed of any negative energy, including entities. Herbs & incense have been used for this purpose for centuries. You can go out on the net at google native american smudging for more information. At the very least, the smell of sage is wonderful, the ritual is calming, and you're being pro-active, so just that alone is helpful.

Sounds like shadow people to me. People claim to have seen shadow figures in a fedora and I guess it can look like the grim reaper. That or it was probably a Halloween decoration. Its almost october 31st after all

Hit and run post,

it's the few times of the year where we get kids who post here with stories and vanish.

If you are curious the times, School vacations and close to halloween.

.....trenchcoat would give the illusion of shadowy...ness

ahh ok, a fedora would be more effective for the "shadowyness" you can put a trenchcoat under but I think that gives the illusion of serial killer with a hook
