A man killed and ate his pet dog in order to stay alive after a bear attack left him with no resources, it has been claimed.

Marco Lavoie has been rescued after being stranded in remote woods in Quebec, Canada, for about three months.

The 44-year-old adventurer was suffering from hypothermia and dehydration and had lost about 90lbs in weight.

I'd have died.

Me too. Chihuahuas don't have that much meat on them.

This story reminded me of a couple of guys who got stranded in the backcountry on a hunting trip in winter. A blizzard overtook them and they got lost - had to shoot their horses, gut them and climb inside to survive. These horses were long time friends of theirs.

Not a pretty story, but the man had to do it to survive.

I wonder if the dog would have done the same to him though....

Yeah, most of us think that, especially if we love animals. But when faced with reality and extreme hunger, those two things get the best of us most of the time. Nature rules us and instinct takes over, then it's all about survival. Of course this all depends on how bad you want live. It's just one of those negative things about being born in a world with the cycle of life and death.

It sucks to be us (human) sometimes.
