Still Waters

Bizarre bug with iridescent tuft of 'hair'

Still Waters

It may look like something straight from a toy store but this bizarre creature is a new species of insect found living in the South American rainforest.

The 7mm-long creature is golden and its elongated body is covered in orange dots and stripes.

It has hair-like feelers sticking out of its rear which resemble the fuzzy hair of the colourful Troll Dolls, a popular toy in the 1990s.

That is one cool looking insect.

Actually it kind of resembles a sort of shrimp or other marine creature.

Amazing what science can discover.

Q-C

I am not feeling the Troll hair, but more like fiber optic cable...

Maybe ants use them to light their tunnels?

It was one of 60 new species found, would be interesting to see them all.

Amazing looking little thing, but the sea has weirder.

This area has been untouched by man.........until now, I do hope this area gets a protection order.

This particular area faces pressure from mining, road and dam projects, as the article states. Lets hope they do make it all a national park,, but if the property developers and major companies get their way, we know what can happen.
