Cellphone data spying: It's not just the NSA

joc

Recommended Posts

The National Security Agency isn't the only government entity secretly collecting data from people's cellphones. Local police are increasingly scooping it up, too.

Armed with new technologies, including mobile devices that tap into cellphone data in real time, dozens of local and state police agencies are capturing information about thousands of cellphone users at a time, whether they are targets of an investigation or not, according to public records obtained by USA TODAY and Gannett newspapers and TV stations.

So, what do you all think about that? Patriot Act...on steroids?

We develop technology, laws, training and equipment to control "Terrorism" overseas and people are honestly surprised that it we bring it back home to control our own populace? Remember our police officers take an oath to serve the state (not the constitution) and are charged with keeping the peace. (I.E. keeping the populace under control)

Why wouldn't they use stuff like this?

Or this:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/01/18/AR2010011803982.html

We had warnings of the misuse of the Patriot Act, and now the NDAA.

Who will watch the watchers?

No one will. But they will make us think they are watching themselves.

WE THE PEOPLE are watching the watchers. And we won't stand for government misbehavior and felonies.

Strikes me as naive but nice.

It was an obvious predictable result of the Patriot Act.

Thanks partisans, we appreciate you giving Osama bin Laden the Win by destroying America's right to privacy.

If it helps to keep America safe from foreign or domestic acts of violence, I guess I'm OK with a little loss of "freedom"

But that's just my opinion.

With all due respect pallidin..that is exactly the attitude that got us to this point via the Patriot Act. Has it occurred to you that discussions of political natures could fall into the realm of 'terroristic talk'? Where does one draw the line then...is speech free or is it not? If it is free...do we not have the right for that speech to be private? And when the loss of a little freedom becomes much greater, what then? What happens when the tyrannical arms of the government reach far enough that you say that's it...something must be done? What will be done? You will be arrested for terroist activities plotting the overthrow of the government.

Well...it's too late pallididn. You cannot put that genie back in the box. They are listening to you pallidin...listening to YOU! Big Brother is watching and listening to YOU! Ah, but you have freedom so that is okay. It is okay pallidin...as long as you love Big Brother...you do love Big Brother don't you pallidin? After all it is BB that is protecting you by taking your freedoms? Do you understand now pallidin...that Freedom is Slavery?

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger! Many americans are good subjects like yourself, buying into the nonsense of the War On Terror, and believing that the government would not deceive you and would not usurp power.

As you demonstrate, Liberty dies to thunderous applause.

Hey just keep your head down, keep buying and keep paying taxes. Otherwise, the terrorists win!

in nyc every 5-6 blocks there are antenas installed on traffic lights poles, that read your ezpass as you pass. they track your movment at any moment. and they don't deny it.

those antennas also may be tracking your cell phone as well. they posibly have map of your movement pattern.

so you know they track you, you know where and how. if one really wants to he can use that to his advantage.

This isn't a recent trend, however. We've always had boogeymen that could be used to further laws stripping our freedom. The Nazis, socialism, communism, The war on drugs, and now the war on terror. The thing stripping our freedom is our fear.

Yeah, we can't stop technology. Computers can now track our every purchase so stores can cater their products to our shopping habits. The old mail system is almost gone, replaced with e-mails and other media that can be archived. You can go online and find satellite pictures of your house and neighborhood. Facebook. I could go on forever, but this is just the tip of the iceberg. Heck, ten years from now they will probable have an online profile for everyone on earth that details everything from health records, criminal background, financial information, all relationships/connections, etc.

90% of that is the people's own fault. Nobody forces you to play privacy strip-tease on social networks.

That is hardly the point...all I need is a phone number questionmark. Give me your phonenumber...or your name...I can tell you way more about you than you ever wanted anyone...especially a stranger to know.

Give me your name...I can tell you your phone numbers...all of them...all of your email addresses...even the one's you think are private..I can tell you where you live...where you have lived...who you are related to..etc. It isn't that hard to do either. So...who's fault is that again?....

Nobody forces the government to create an online register of its citizens, but it still happened.

The NSA is the ones out of Control. I don't mind local police doing this if i ever went missing. But the NSA can go **** themselves. Seriously if i ever went missing the NSA wouldn't give to ****s. But local police might so they can use these technologies. Plus Police doing back ground checks on there "Girlfriends" is like the unofficial plus of being a Officer. Hell if i had the capability to do a Background check on my Girlfriend i sure as hell would. You just can't trust people's word these days.

The NSA is out of control, but the local Police invading your most private conversations is okay because you might go missing? Your logic astounds me...and scares me at the same time...that mind set is why I say:

we're doomed
