I can only assume the deer is someones pet or it is deaf and partially stupid.

It was a fawn it just didn't know the danger, hopefully he will learn before he grows horns. Deer are very curious and will check out things they don't understand.

I remember a firing range where the deer became so desensitized to the sound of gun shots they would be on the range even during a live fire exercise. The could literally be standing between you and your target.
