Likely Guy Posted December 12, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 12, 2013 I just heard about this boy tonight, Richard Turere. When he was eleven he invented a simple device that saved both his family's livestock as well as the lions that preyed on them. "The Turere Family live in Empakasi, right on the edge of the Nairobi National Park, just south of the City of Nairobi. Richard is responsible for bringing the cattle in at night and locking them up in the boma, safe from predators, especially lions. But being so close the park puts this family’s cattle right in the path of lions and every month they lost cows, sheep and goats. At the age of 11 Richard decided to do something about his family’s losses." http://newswatch.nationalgeographic.com/2012/05/27/lion-lights-a-home-grown-solution-to-saving-lions-and-livestock/ Yes, Richard was later flown to L.A. and gave a TED lecture.

Michelle Posted December 12, 2013 #3 Share Posted December 12, 2013 Thank you, Richard!!! Sometimes all it takes is a fresh perspective.
Likely Guy Posted December 12, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted December 12, 2013 He admitted though that part of his motivation was to get a full nights sleep. I heard his interview and he said that he doesn't want to get paid for his invention. He has, however, received a scholarship to continue school.
Michelle Posted December 12, 2013 #5 Share Posted December 12, 2013 Whatever the motivation it's well worth it.
