Is ectoplasm cheesecloth?

Hello,

I have been a spiritualist for 20 years but I am now starting to have doubts. I have read some skeptical books and they contained some exposures of fraudulent mediums who used ectoplasm made of cheesecloths. So is physical mediumship the result of fraud do you recon? I may have been duped into believing it was genuine  I truly hope their is an afterlife but I have found many of these mediums utilising trickery in the séance room such as Eva C, Leslie Flint and Alec Harris, I can't believe I was so gullible and believed some of these "materializations" were genuine, the photographs of this "ectoplasm" do indeed look like cheesecloth and gauze. Perhaps there is no afterlife. It comes as a bit of a shock to me. Any comments?

Thanks,

Is physical mediumship fraudulent? In a word: yes. But you shouldn't take the veracity or otherwise of mediumship demonstrations as being proof of the afterlife. Believing or not in an afterlife is really not a matter of finding any physical proof. It is something spiritual and philosophical. I don't think there is an afterlife per se, but I do have philosophical thoughts on what may happen to our conscience when we die. You'll never find any concrete proof of an afterlife, I'm afraid.

But yeah, I'm pretty sure ectoplasm is a made-made hoax. This was debunked decades and decades ago.

Im sorry if anyone played a trick on you. They are scoundrels and *******s if they did. I believe in the afterlife... I've seen ghosts before and despite some peoples philosophy that it is imaginary, I believe what I saw and it helps me believe. I never had experience with ectoplasm. Please keep your eyes open to the spiritual and supernatural, keep your eyes open for your own proof. You don't need to follow anyone to find it and it is not always about concrete evidence.

Good luck... and again sorry about that.

To see how some of it is done, worth a watch of this. Not sure if you have heard of Derren Brown in the US but he pulls off the most incredible magic/psychic/illusions and all done usually by psychological techniques.

Tyler Snotgern,

Why are you so focused on the physical mediumship aspect that no one was ever convinced of in the first place. This aspect of mediumship belongs to the Victorian era which is pretty much debunked to cheesecloths etc. Most people are aware it is not what mediumship is.

Your thread really makes little logic or sense ?

Yea.... you are Tyler Snotgern Forests Arouet MU, and I'm just an elf on a horse, lol.

i am a little uncomfortable in saying this do to alot of skeptism I am reading, but I will try to explain what I experienced, ectoplasm is very real.

From what I experienced it was like a see thru smoke. I do not have any pictures but I can tell you what happened ..

My mother was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer , the hospital allowed me to take her for end of life care.

A hospital bed was set up in the main room and I slept on the couch against the wall towards the feet of her bed so I could see her at all times.

Approx 4:30 am I woke up shivering it was freezing , yet it was july so i thought the a/c had acted up.

I immediately looked to my mom to see this huge cloud of smoke over her entire bed , the smoke appeared to be swirling over the entire bed

a few feet over top of her and was very thick but it was a different kind of smoke it was see thru..

I jumped and flew to her bedside to see this smoke was going directly into her mouth, it was a long thick funnel stream stretching into the

see thru smoke over top of her.

In a panic thinking there was a fire in the house

I began fanning this "see thru smoke" to stop her from breathing it in I followed the flow of it with my eyes to the end of the bed and up

to what looked like a huge mans face with the smoke coming from approx its mouth area.

I was unable to stop it and I was unable to wake my mom..

Being I couldnt stop this smoke and in a panic I began running to all rooms of the house to see what was burning

as my mom was paralyzed I needed to know fast what I was to do with her.

After checking all of the rooms finding nothing I returned to my moms bedside with all of the smoke gone.

My mom passed 2 days after this.

My father had recently passed a few months before this and we had brought his ashes home which were on the fireplace

in the same room.

I do not know why I saw this , it certainly isnt something I had ever heard of or would ever want to see again.

Most of the popular mediums of the 19th and early 20th have been exposed tu frauds by parapsychologists at times aided by illusionists. Charles Richet a French physiologist, one of the founder of the Society For Psychical Research in France became a specialist to expose fraudulant mediums.

That said, I do not see how does that rule out the concept of the after life. There maybe genuine psychic/medium having real extra-sensory perceptions abilities (D.D Home and Nina Kulagina for istance, have never been succesfully ''debunked'' it must be said.) Even it there is not, it should not be used as a proof against the after life. Only as evidence of human faillability and erroneous perceptions.
