Still Waters Posted February 9, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 9, 2014 A rare surviving Kamikaze aircraft seized by the British at the end of World War II is to go on display for the first time. The Yokosuka MXY7 Ohka, which would have been flown by Japanese suicide bombers, is to form part of an exhibition at the Fleet Air Arm Museum. http://www.telegraph...first-time.html

keninsc Posted February 10, 2014 #6 Share Posted February 10, 2014 The thing I just never understood about Kamikaze pilots is.... why on earth did they wear helmets? So that sharpnel wouldn't keep them from hitting their target.
Ealdwita Posted February 10, 2014 #7 Share Posted February 10, 2014 The original cruise missile? Or did the V1 take that honour? The V1 by quite a while....First flew 10th.December 1941. The MXY7....(powered)....November 1944. What is it with flying bombs and 'cherries'....? Okhra means 'Cherry blossom' and the V1's original code name was Kirshkem..(Cherry stone). Xynoplas Posted February 16, 2014 #9 Share Posted February 16, 2014 So that sharpnel wouldn't keep them from hitting their target. Also they would have been knocked around in their cockpit if they were doing hi-G maneuvers.
