keninsc Posted March 10, 2014 #4 Share Posted March 10, 2014 Yeah, but it's still space junk until it does.
toast Posted March 10, 2014 #5 Share Posted March 10, 2014 (edited) Like we don't have enough space junk floating around the Earth? On September 7, 2006, at 16:00 GMT, Suitsat re-entered the Earth's atmosphere over the Southern Ocean at 110.4° East longitude and 46.3° South latitude. It was over a point some 1400 km south- southwest of Cape Leeuwin, Western Australia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SuitSat It entered the earth atmosphere already, so no problem. keninsc Posted March 11, 2014 #6 Share Posted March 11, 2014 I know. I did read the article. I recall reading that the MIR used to despose of it's waste and garbage by this method. Could be the reason for global warming.

Could be the reason for global warming. ISS1 waste disposal by destroying during earth atmosphere entry is a common practice of the ISS1 waste disposal management. Unmanned space craft transfer vehicles like ATV, HTV and Progress are used as “garbage trucks” for this purpose. The thermal energy delivered to the earth atmosphere during the re-entry of this vehicles is too marginal to be taken into consideration as an influencing effect to global warming causations . Could be the reason for global warming. I seriously doubt it. A much greater mass of material hits the Earth every day from space in the form of meteors.
