An entirely new type of mineral has been identified within a meteorite discovered in Buenos Aires.

The 16. 55kg space rock known as D'Orbigny was first picked up by a farmer plowing his fields in Argentina back in 1979. Originally believed to be an Indian artifact, it took more than two decades for scientists to recognize it as an object that had come from space.

I think you missunderstand what a mineral is.

A mineral is just a naturally occurring substance that is stable at room temperature and represented by a chemical formula.

Interesting to say the least. Now I guess we'll try to manufacture this somehow to see if it has ant usable properties

Makes you wonder how this crystal formed. This discovery opens up a whole new set of questions. Good find.

...In a new study, reported at the 45th Lunar and Planetary Conference in Houston, Texas, scientists led by Dr Shyh-Lung Hwang of the National Dong Hwa University in Hualien, Taiwan, were able to identify the unknown mineral as kuratite.

They must of matched it off their " List of Unknown Minerals " chart?
