Jay Carney loves Soviet propaganda posters?

I think this is more appropriate. The question remains, what will you learn from it, and can you?

Bet he's the kind that works...more silently.

Oh, there's some brilliant ones. I used to have a site bookmarked with some brilliant examples. Socialist Realist kitsch is an art form in itself.

Of course, the Journalists, in their eagerness to stoke up fear of the Red Menace, may have forgotten the concept that one might be tongue in cheek, of course. Many of them, as I said, are great pieces of art in a kitsch kind of way. Of course, it may also be that the story itself is also tongue in cheek, and that they do recognise the concept of irony, and that some people who read the story don't, and see it as proof that Mr. O's closest aides and advisors are Commie sympathisers.

I dont know if the couple are Russian sympathisers but its interesting to note that Jay got his B.A. cum laude in Russian and eastern european studies from Yale when he was just 21 and Claire was formerly married to a CNN Moscow correspondent. Something else interested me as well...... she's 3 yrs older then him. Probably his first girlfriend. Looks and acts like the type who was a mamas boy who needs a mother like spouse. I know I'm judging him but it's what I perceive in watching him over the yrs.

What are you going on about? I started off by saying "I dont know if they're sympathisers" in reference to your post above mine.

They do have interests in Russia and eastern europe so the posters aren't a surprise. Besides for the magazine to include them in the photo it was meant to be seen.

So you didn't select & highlight the fact that he'd studied Russian & Eastern European Studies as if that was some proof that he was a fifth columnist, then?

Nope... I saved that for you to suggest.

Sure, some of the Red propaganda posters are stylistically aesthetic, and I knew someone would use this argument to defend Jay's "taste". He can have all the Soviet posters he wants, it's the "bad optics" in the media that he should of been aware of. Like most "elites' though, he is out of touch with common sensibilities.

Another thought. Would a Republican, with a degree in German studies have thought nothing of up leaving posters of Nazi propaganda for the media to see?

Why is "Soviet Kitsch" acceptable?

I think it's the passage of time and the view of a youth culture that never really saw the evils done in the name of Communism. They seem to either think the reports are a lie or are exaggerated. Ask the East European countries who "prospered" under this loving system for decades. Maybe the ubiquitous queues for things as simple as bread and toilet paper were just propaganda? Yes, I'm sure that must be the case. If there is any justice, those who idealize the system that caused so much pain in the world will someday feel that boot on their own neck. But hey! At least it won't be an American boot!

In that case, Carney should get a Walter Duranty award.

"Duranty won a Pulitzer Proze in 1932 for a series of stories on the Soviet Union. Duranty has been criticized for his denial of widespread famine, most particularly the Ukraine Mass Starvation (1932–33). Years later, there were calls to revoke his Pulitzer; even The Times acknowledged his articles constituted "some of the worst reporting to appear in this newspaper.""

In the colleges and high schools these days, they would teach at least 70% of the time in some classes a lot about socialism, especially if one is taking Sociology and Anthropology. I have feeling this has been going on for decades. I had one Sociology Professor who called it "Democratic Socialism", the younger students in my class were lapping it up. You could tell they were pretty well influenced by it.

So that's probably the case for Carney, he's just simply influenced by it.

Each generation has to learn the hard way I guess. America certainly isn't blameless in the world but NEVER could it be compared to the sheer brutality of the Soviet system.

As the old the Boston song goes; "it's more than a feeling".

This video is a bit dry and pretentious, but from what I know, is a fair assessment

This one leaves out the Marxist beginnings and focuses on today's U.S. campuses. I think you'll find the first minute of the film very familiar.

Cos it's fun, in an ironic kind of way. And these "common sensibilities"; you mean the let's-hate-the-Reds-once-again that the American state controlled Media is currently so keen to whip up?

Cool, that means Republican politicians and appointees are free to goose-step around the kitchen behind their Nazi posters for the media cameras?

Which red-hating American media are you talking about? I can only think of one, Fox News. Despite Hilary's fear of "a vast right-wing conspiracy", all I see in academia and mainstream media are Liberals.

I agree, I personally believe the death of multi-millions in Russia's prior Soviet system was the worse system I had ever seen. Not even counting the death of millions in China.

Yeah the first minute in the last video hit the nail right on the head, race, class, gender, all that.

But in general, here's what it really boils down to and the underlining message I got from them or the main driving subject they are trying to push into every students brain, "Equality".

Now I caught on to this real quick, not because of my personal feelings on it, but simply because I knew if did anything or said anything good in their eyes about 'Equality' that would get me a better grade in my Sociology class or any other class. I'd would have an easier time passing the class. Of course that was what they were hoping, that I seemed to be all about 'Equality'. As matter of fact, the Sociology Professor wanted us to do a semester term paper on anything to do with Sociology in general, yet he ever so slightly hinted around about 'Inequality' specifically. No problem for me, I knew exactly what they wanted and what to do and this paper would count for the better part of my grade in that class. Lol, I was struggling with trying to pass his Sociology tests, kept failing them. So anyway, I did a term paper on "The Inequalities of Women in India". I knew that was gonna be a highly accepted term paper from his perspective. And it was, except for one thing - I didn't mention anything about or left out the inequalities of Muslim women specifically. My term paper just concentrated on the Inequalities of India's female gender in general. So I didn't get that A- or A+ like I wanted and thought I was going to get, so instead he gave me a B+ because of that. Bummer! <_<

But it did help me pass the class though. Damn Sociology tests were killing me, man! :passifier:

I think anyone who has gone to a "liberal arts" college or university during the last 60 years knows the score.

For any student who wants to stand up to profs using the classroom for the own political soapbox, you can contact The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education. F.I.R.E is a non-partisan group. A quick perusal of cases shows an overwhelming majority of free speech infringements have been targeted at conservative students.

For Canadian students, you should contact the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms.

Except that now a good portion of America has re-awakened to the very real threat of a communist takeover. In the past we've seen that a Communist believes it is acceptable to lie, cheat, steal or murder as long as it's for the common good. So why would I believe a single word spoken by anyone who shows any inkling of pro-Communist ideals.

Today's American communists are bold. These posters in the background are just a little wink and nod to fellow communists.

I presume you mean Mr. O, in which case I can only recommend a study of history and of the works of Karl Marx and V. I Lenin.

This is a good site, by the way -->

Perhaps there's a few there he hasn't seen yet, which he might like to order.

This important news should be delivered to Putin's office immediately.

But this scare-attempt is soooo 1950s. We need to stay consistent with the politically-correct bogey men people are actually stupid enough to be scared of today.
