Abductee support group set up in the UK

UM-Bot

Recommended Posts

The group aims to provide help to those who believe that they have been abducted by extraterrestrials.

Known as "The Anomalous Mind Management, Abductee, Contactee Helpline", or "Ammach" for short, the group is run by Joanne Summerscales who aims to give people a platform of support from which they can relay their experiences without fear of ridicule.

There are already fully trained people who can help these people, they are called phycologist. But if more than 1500 people have contacted her group, then I would imagine its not help these people are after....its confirmation that they have been abducted. I would like to know what sort of "help" they provide, maybe I will give them a ring.

Jeeze seeder, you got a memory like a Sony cybershot HX50.

Maybe the numbers have fallen and they need to re advertise, or there were never as many people being abducted (allegedly) as they hoped.

I agree that some of these people may need psychiatrical help, suffering for mental health deseases. However, John E. Mack a psychiatrist and professor at Harvard Medical School after years of researches and studies of patients claiming to be abductees, came to the conclusion that many of them were sound and healthy persons, not suffereing for any known pathology nor had they fantasy prone personalities. That actually made quite a earthquake in the scientific community when he presented well documented cases in his book: Abduction: Human Encounters With Aliens released in 1994.

That's probably the only significant body of research on Alien abduction by a credible and respected specialist of the mind, suggesting a reality to these experiences that have been made available for the public. In conventional medicine, these people which are indeed honest and really in need of help to get through these traumatic and very uncommon experiences, often get treatments and medications that are of no avail and their experiences are more than often considered to be the product of imagination and wishful thinking.

If their only "problem" mentally is believing they have been abducted, then they can very easily be deemed sound and healthy.

Unfortunately this kind of research is not always to be relied upon....I have read far too many cases where a convicted psychopath has been re-evaluate, re-trained mentally and reclassified and now deemed to be fit enough to be sent back into society to live among the rest of society by the Professionals, only to end up going straight back to their earlier trait before all the intensive research and tests and training!

Obviously I am not saying the alleged abductees are psychopaths, but I am saying I am not impresed by Johns studies although it does state that many of them and not all of them.

In other words, someone who seriously believes in what fantasy their mind may be telling them...can very easily been seen in some cases as sound and healthy, the phychopaths can fool the professionals, any one can..

Seriously I would love to know is the so called abduction phenomena still going on? Are there recent cases or was it a phenomena of the 80's and 90's?

Any serious thoughts?

We've got some claims right here in the forum.

I personally don't like the comparison with psychopath, though I can understand your point. Psychopaths may appear normal person though have 'moral depravity' and may seriously lack a sens of ethics. Errors and misdiagnostic have been made in psychiatry and will very likely been made again as specialists are human after all, that's a reality.

What is striking with the abductees is that they are perfectly aware that their experiences are ridiculously imposssible according to our understanding of the world, so that they won't often speak of their experiences for fear of being deemed crazy. They do so reluctantly and eventually learn to open up progressively after a therapy and attending support groups.

In other words, someone who seriously believes in what fantasy their mind may be telling them...can very easily been seen in some cases as sound and healthy, the phychopaths can fool the professionals, any one can..

An interesting thing about the Alien abduction phenomenon documented by Mack is the consistency of the accounts. Which makes pure fantasy or divagation of the mind more unlikely. They all share the same baseline, that is one gets tranported by a beam, through walls and doors, on a ''tunnel'' leading to a kind of spacecraft where small beings with large black eyes and a taller one often dubbed ''the chief'' or ''the doctor'' by the experiencers takes the subject to a series of very unusual and peculiar procedures. They may eventually be shown apocaliptic visions of the Earth and warned about the protection of the environment ect. The storyline is consistent and strangely similar from one patient to another.

An interesting interview here:

Precisely this that convinces me that something is going on (or was; I'm not convinced that it still genuinely is). We may not understand it but it is real. The Allagash Incident convinces me that that that is the case.

Besides, Hopkins, Mac an Jacobs were no fools. All intelligent men with credentials.

The similarity between the cased is not unusual at all, ask 100 children to draw a picture of what they think an alien will look like, you will find the same similarities. Although these alleged abductees are adults, what they are describing is an image which is in a dream and most probably what they remember from what they were shown throughout their childhood.....which was large black eyes, round spaceships and beams.

On the part where you mention they may be deemed as crazy...IMO the fear is not only being deemed as crazy by others, but actually thinking they may be themselves. Please note, this is not unique with alleged abductees, but is a fear among many in society.but with the abductees, just like someone who experiences the same nightmare and eventually feels they need help as it is beginning to affect their waking hours, they know what the problem is.....thoughts through sleep which they can not control.

This is about alleged UK abductions. Of which there are hardly any reported. As you know. us Brits have our feet firmly on the ground. Kindly stop trying to divert the thread to non UK cases.

No other dream that I know of recurs through a population like that. How come it's not the headless horseman, the vampire, the devil............we see no such thing except in the abduction scenario.

There are many books on dreams giving explanations.....explanations about certain things in dreams which lots of oeople share.

The reason why the alleged abductees are seeing the same things, is because they are all thinking similar eg: they believe in aliens, in comparison to the amount of people who do not have these dreams about being abducted, there are actually not that many of them.

The word population is a gross overstatement.

Many people do have dreams about vampires, some even take it into realty, but its not seen the same as an abductee, people who think they are vampires and take it into reality are making a consious choice. If you admit you are a vampire and bite people, it could result in an arrest, an abductee will not be arrested for saying they were kidnapped by aliens.

If there were a load of people who have the same dreams about the headless horseman and swore that he abducted them and made them ride with him.....then theres would be no doubt about it, they all took the book or film far too literally and are crazy.

Please tell us more about the evidence you have that all these people are crazy, I'd love to hear it. I've always been on the fence about the existence of ET's myself. So glad someone has proof that every abduction claim is bogus.

Currently these experiences are not considered real events by mainstream psychiatrists, and are being traited according to conventional medicine. Often to no avail as repported by many abductees. There is no evidence whatsover, after hours of therapy with hundreds of patients examined by renowned specialist by John E. Mack that all of these people are crazy and fantasy prone personality, all the contrary. Whether or not these are ''real'' experiences in the common sens of the word or non-materialistic transpersonal, spiritual phenomenon remains to be determined.

It's always claimed that abductees who have these experiences and see the grey beings is nothing but pop culture.

The abductee is actually having some sort of dream by incorporating these creatures from the old sci-fi movies

from the 50's and 60's that they've seen in their nightmare. If that's the case then I've never heard any reports of abductees reporting

any beings that look like the creatures from the Predator or Alien movies if it's pop culture and Hollywood movies having an influence.

Yes there are other types of beings other then greys that abductees report like the Reptilian and Nordic types but they are a far cry

from the Predator and Alien creatures of those newer sci-fi movies of the 80's. Abductees still mostly report Greys.

Good point.

Ive never been abducted by aliens (that I recall) but. I have had many dreams. I think I would know the difference between a dream and an actual experience.

Have you ever had a dream seem so real that it would appear by your otherwise rational senses that you had been actually been abducted by aliens?

Well good on them for getting a support group together, I hope they rationalize enough to get their ordinary lives back together....
