Waspie_Dwarf Posted April 28, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 28, 2014 SpaceX challenges Air Force launch contracts SpaceX founder and chief designer Elon Musk said Friday his company is filing a lawsuit to protest what he said were unjustified, sole-source Air Force contracts with United Launch Alliance for Delta 4 and Atlas 5 rockets used to boost high-priority military satellites into orbit."What we feel is that this is not right, that the national security launches should be put up for competition, and they should not be awarded on a sole source, uncompeted basis," he told reporters at a hastily arranged Washington news conference. Waspie_Dwarf Posted April 30, 2014 Author #2 Share Posted April 30, 2014 ULA defends 27-rocket 'block buy' contract Responding to claims by aerospace newcomer SpaceX that it was unfairly blocked from competing for lucrative military missions, United Launch Alliance, winner of a sole-source Air Force contract for 27 rockets, said it was the only U.S. company that met stringent Pentagon mission requirements using boosters with a proven track record."Canceling the contract and terminating the block buy -- which involves hundreds of suppliers and is enormously complex -- would cost billions," ULA said in a statement released late Monday. "Additionally, it could put critical mission schedules at risk that would have impact on operational capabilities and the satellite program costs." Read more... Waspie_Dwarf Posted May 2, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted May 2, 2014 SpaceX wins temporary injunction on ULA-Russian engine buys The U.S. Court of Federal Appeals has issued a temporary injunction barring United Launch Alliance from purchasing Russian engines and hardware for its venerable Atlas 5 rocket following a complaint by SpaceX alleging such sales violate U.S. sanctions imposed in the wake of Russia's actions in Ukraine.In a complaint filed Monday, SpaceX also claims a sole-source Air Force contract with ULA for 27 Atlas 5 and Delta 4 rockets, a five-year "block buy" valued at $11 billion, should be reversed and opened to competition. Waspie_Dwarf Posted May 8, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted May 8, 2014 Government asks to lift ban on buying Russian engine The Treasury and State departments have concluded that United Launch Alliance's Russian engine purchases do not appear to violate sanctions levied against a senior Russian government official, prompting U.S. government lawyers to ask a federal judge to reverse an order blocking the company from buying Atlas 5 rocket engines.The U.S. Court of Federal Claims issued a temporary injunction April 30 preventing ULA or its suppliers from making fresh purchases or payments to NPO Energomash or any entity subject to the control of Russian deputy prime minister Dmitry Rogozin, who was sanctioned by the U.S. government in the wake of Russia's takeover of Crimea.
