Use the High Definition Earth Viewing experiment, delivered by the SpaceX CRS-3 capsule and mounted on the outside of the ISS to see a real time, HD feed of the earth. Description of the experiment and link to HDEV here http://www.extremete...and-its-awesome

If you want a direct link to HDEV (Merc's link is to an article on HDEV which contains an embeded link to it) then try this: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/iss-hdev-payload

Thanks for sharing, guys, it`s amazing!

I`m curious about to see thunder storms on earth at night and, of course, the moon.

Thanks Waspie, couldn't get to the direct link from work computer. You can put the current ISS position up right next to it for an even better ride. http://iss.astroviewer.net/

It is an eye opener to have it open for a few hours and "really experience" how fast they are orbiting the earth and moving from night to day. Even tiny numbers (in an astronomical sense) like 17,000+MPH are beyond our comprehension until you do a pseudo ride along. Even then it is hard to comprehend.

I remember I picked a brand new Tomcat up at the factory on Long Island to fly her home (yeah, i am that old and it was an F-14A) and we went out and did a profile. That thing hit over 1400 knots, well above mach 2 and was the fastest I ever traveled in my life. As soon as we landed at Oceana they detuned the engines and reduced everything so it would never go that fast again, unless necessary but for that one day I was HS fast.

The thing is, you have no sense of it at 40K+ feet except from the needle on the air speed indicator. We humans just cant comprehend those numbers. 134MPH on my Honda ST-1100 was VERY comprehensible and far more exciting than mach 2+ at 40k feet but I got to do it and was paid for the privilege.

Thank you for posting this! I have been watching it throughout the day. The links provided has been very useful, thank you everyone who has shared them! This is extremely cool. Our planet is stunning. I am sure we are the envy of the rest of our solar system!

I would not have known about this Earth Viewing experiment had it not been for this thread.

Awesome. Just... awesome!!!

Kind Regards:)

It's either Soyuz TMA-12M or Progress M-23M. I'm fairly sure it's the latter.
