Still Waters

People in central Japan are being treated to the sight of one of the wonders of the deep.

A rare Megamouth shark is on display at the Marine Science Museum in Shizuoka City.

The shark was caught in waters off Shizuoka last month at a depth of about 2,600 feet.

This is only the 58th Megamouth ever to have been caught or sighted by man.

Amazing looking creature, great story.

But who goes fishing at 2600 feet??????

And were they eating bits of that shark in the video at the link?

They seemed to be. I was surprised by that too, perhaps it's meant to bring them good luck or something? Not good luck for the shark though unfortunately.

Good point. Just think of how many times we see something in the media about a 'rare sighting' of something thought to be extinct. Who knows what's still out there that we don't know about, or how many.

No, not just sighted. If you read Still Waters media story again. There were at least 58 Megamouth to have been "caught" or sighted.
