Waspie_Dwarf Posted May 29, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 29, 2014 Russian Investigative Commission Hints Sabotage Possibly Caused Proton Accident MOSCOW, May 29 (RIA Novosti) – A government commission investigating the recent crash of a Proton-M rocket believes a third stage engine glitch was at fault, while not ruling out that the failure occurred because of sabotage.“The version of premeditated sabotage has not been ruled out,” Roscosmos quoted the head of the commission, First Deputy General Director of the Central Research Institute of Machine Building (TsNIIMash) Alexander Danilyuk, as saying. Waspie_Dwarf Posted May 29, 2014 Author #2 Share Posted May 29, 2014 Roscosmos Scolded for ‘Pestering Society’ with Proton Crash Theories MOSCOW, May 29 (RIA Novosti) – A Russian commission investigating the recent crash of a Proton-M rocket is creating troubled waters too soon with its half-baked theories, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin wrote Thursday on his Facebook page.“The crash commission at Roscosmos should have first finished its work and submitted the findings to the Russian government, before starting to pester society with its theories of what caused the accident,” Rogozin wrote. Waspie_Dwarf Posted May 29, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted May 29, 2014 Proton Rocket Failure Probe Finds No Evidence of Deliberate Misconduct MOSCOW, May 29 (RIA Novosti) – The interdepartmental state commission investigating the recent Proton-M carrier rocket launch failure has so far found no evidence supporting the theory that it was caused by deliberate misconduct, Russia’s space agency Roscosmos said Thursday.“The human factor version, including the possibility of a deliberate violation of production norms, is considered during an investigation into every accident or incident, it’s a standard procedure. The May 16 crash of the Proton space rocket was due to a failed bearing in the steering engine’s turbo pump, the chief of the Russian space agency Roscosmos, Oleg Ostapenko, told ITAR-TASS.“The final version agrees with the preliminary findings made at the first stage of the inter-departmental probe. Telemetry and analytical information indicate that apparently a bearing in the turbo pump failed. We proceed from this in our further work to identify and localize problems that may occur at the moment of the next launch.” Asked when another Proton rocket may be launched, Ostapenko said the date remained unclear yet.
