The phrase itself is from the old days of learning to type (on a typewriter). The sentence contains all the letters of the alphabet (never counted myself but that's what they told us in the olden days).

It seems to me that it's a type of formula, like in excel.

Ok, I think I know a possible explanation (well, kinda...)

I remembered where else I had seen the phrase "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog". It's in the font explorer program, from control panel>fonts and double click on a font icon. It gives you this phrase as an example. I was thinking, could it be that this small "command" (put there by some nerd microsoft programmer) just brings up the phrase for x pages, where x is the number of fonts installed? Coz I did find kinda interesting the fact that the number of pages differs from one cpu to another.

If x=the # you put in the parentheses

5*x=How many sentences there are.

But what number would 200,99 be? The comma is in the wrong place...

also made one sentence (was without spaces)

Made 15 sentences

=rand(200,99)

Made 235 pages

=rand(2,1)

made 2 sentences with a carriage return after each.

=rand(1,2)

made 2 sentences as a continuous line

1,3 does 3 sentences in a continuous line

3,1 does 3 sentences with a return after each
