Duo Tries on Spacesuits While Advanced Microgravity Science Continues

The six-member Expedition 40 crew is counting down to a Thursday morning spacewalk. Meanwhile, the orbital residents are conducting an array of international science and station maintenance tasks.

A pair of cosmonauts spent Tuesday morning conducting a dress rehearsal of Thursday’s spacewalk. They donned their Russian Orlan space suits, checked their systems and performed a fit check at suit pressure.

Cosmonauts Ready for Spacewalk While NASA Astronauts Work With Tiny Satellites

A pair of cosmonauts is ready for Thursday morning’s spacewalk. Meanwhile, two NASA astronauts are working with student-controlled micro-satellites while ground controllers prepare to reposition the Canadarm2 outside the International Space Station.

Cosmonauts Alexander Skvortsov and Oleg Artemyev will exit the Pirs docking compartment Thursday at 9:50 a.m. EDT. They will spend about 6.5 hours outside installing an antenna, relocating a cargo boom, swabbing samples from a window on the Zvezda service module and switching out science experiment gear.

Spacewalkers Working Outside Zvezda for Installation and Experiment Work

Spacewalkers Alexander Skvortsov and Oleg Artemyev exited the Pirs docking compartment at 10:10 a.m. EDT for about 6.5 hours of spacewalking tasks outside the Russian segment of the International Space Station.

Their first task is to install a communications system antenna on the conical section of the Zvezda service module. They’ll spend about two hours and 45 minutes on that task which includes connecting cables, removing protective covers and photographing their work.

Spacewalkers Alexander Skvortsov and Oleg Artemyev wrapped up their spacewalk at 5:33 p.m. EDT after 7 hours and 23 minutes of installation and experiment tasks outside the Russian segment of the International Space Station.

They installed a communications system antenna on the conical section of the Zvezda service module. They spent a couple of hours on that task which included connecting cables, removing protective covers and photographing their work.
