Evidence of ancient Egyptian epidemic found

Recommended Posts

LUXOR, Egypt, June 17 (UPI) --As a series of terrible epidemics -- now known as the Plague of Cyprian -- wiped out hordes of ancient Egyptians, some writers of the time thought the world was coming to an end.

Archaeologists have recently unearthed new artifacts and human remains from that horrific period of history. Digging in the artifact-rich Funerary Complex of Harwa and Akhimenru in ancient Egyptian city of Thebes, today the modern city Luxor, a team of Italian researchers found bodies caked in a thick layer of lime. In ancient times, lime was a commonly used as a disinfectant.

Discovered by researchers with the Italian Archaeological Mission to Luxor (MAIL), the bodies were located in three ancient kilns where the lime was produced and then used the cover plague victims as they were incinerated.

The lime helps to cover the stench.....some ppl here use lime when burying a dog, etc so the coyotes don't dig for them.

Our navy used to use it to treat Scurvy .... hence the reason why the British get called 'limeys' as the US Navy found it hilarious lol

Ironically once we started adding some Lime to the daily ration of Rum we ended up being some of the healthiest sailors at sea due to the ascorbic acid 1 - 0 to the Limeys lol :tsu:

Lime is poisonous.

It was the citrus fruit that started the term Limey.

Ok, enough of this nonsense.

Quick Lime: Calcium oxide, used for rapid decomposition of bodies (among other things), caustic and highly reactive, high pH.

Lime: Citrus aurantifolia, Tropical Citrus tree species producing oblong to round sour green fruits, ripening to yellow. High in vitamin C and acidic, low pH. Used in drinks and cooking.

Regular limes must be slowlime.

I know was being facetious, playing with the word, I am well aware of the difference lol, was kind of continuing the theme from the previous post where they had said about adding it to Vodka, perhaps I should have quoted that for clarity :)

Do we know the cause of the plague, was it bubonic or was it something else like influinza?

Yes, it was hundreds of thousands of infected children pouring across Egypt's southern border.

That certainly wasn't Pharoah's fault, you know.
