US sets up honey bee loss task force

The White House has set up a taskforce to tackle the decline of honey bees.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the agriculture department will lead the effort, which includes $8m (£4.7m) for new honey bee habitats.

Bee populations saw a 23% decline last winter, a trend blamed on the loss of genetic diversity, exposure to certain pesticides and other factors.

Let's not forget the colder than normal weather that added to the decline. If the EPA is in on it, no good will come of it.

Bees are exposed to millions of acres of crops that are saturated with chemicals and pesticides. Then they are taken home by their keepers who further saturate their hives with chemicals and herbicides. Now they are dying. Wonder how that happened?

Better late than never I suppose. Should have done this 5 years ago when the rest of us were made aware of CCD.

Amateur beekeepers whose practice a policy of "don't add nothin' " have experienced few incidences of CCD..
