Quote from link.....

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday instructed the military to begin a ground offensive in Gaza, an official statement from his office said.

Reuters witnesses and Gaza residents reported heavy artillery and naval shelling and helicopter fire along the Gaza border.

"The prime minister and defence minister have instructed the IDF to begin a ground operation tonight in order to hit the terror tunnels from Gaza into Israel," the statement said.

Israel and Palestinian militants in the densely populated enclave have been fighting a cross border war for the ten days.

The Israeli military says Gaza militants have fired more than 1,300 rockets into Israel, and Palestinian health officials say 233 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli air and naval strikes. One Israeli civilian has been killed by fire from Gaza.

A statement from the Israeli military said the operation will include "infantry, armoured corps, engineer corps, artillery and intelligence combined with aerial and naval support."

Before dawn on Thursday, about a dozen Palestinian fighters tunnelled under the border, emerging near an Israeli community. At least one was killed when Israeli aircraft bombed the group, the military said.

There'll be more men and women standing in the shadow of the rubble that used to be their homes talking about just wanting their rights. The difference is, the Israeli had his rights the day before the rocket fell through his roof.

There'll be more corpses of children to be pulled out of the rubble while their parents struggle to reconcile with the meaning of it all. And then in a cruel shade of irony we deny them the right to struggle too. I don't know how some people could look the Palestinian people in the face and say the things they do.

from OP link...

that's a hell of a lot of rockets.....what did Hamas think was going to happen..?

Did they think they could just carry on firing missiles with no come back..?

It would take millions rockets to do the same damage to the IDF that the IDF does to civilians in Gaza. So if I conservatively put the number at 1,300,000, we're short on rockets by several orders of magnitude.

Nobody talks about dead Palestinians "murdered" by "terrorists" in Israeli strikes over the past weeks, months, and years, in Gaza. We just cherry pick the violent event that we prefer and then treat it as the start of the conflict, thus whitewashing Israel's actions.

Which REALLY looks like a "shut up and toughen up, princess" directed at the Israelis or (to be fairer to you) a "you're over-reacting".

Another military adventure which will, in the long run, prove to be completely counter productive.

It seems to me a ground offensive on the militants would be/is preferable to continuing "indiscriminate" shelling of Palestinian neighborhoods. At least now the chances of innocent casualties will be reduced if not eliminated.

To be fair, America inherited Israel from Brittan and we now see her as something like a fearful child surrounded by knife wielding neighbors who would cut her throat given just half a chance.

It is difficult us 'mericans to view Israel as doing anything wrong. It is just the way we are. Maybe it has something to do with being from the Judeo-Christianic tradition.

Nonetheless this story brings about more fears of a general war developing in an already volatile region.

Well at least Israel warns of attack in certain areas for the people to get out, or evacuate , not like Hamas shooting those rockets just everywhere.it seems no matter how many of their own people are killed, they just keep on instead of trying to make some kind of settlement with Israel.

I worry that Hamas will create an ambush or event that will kill hundreds just for the press. They have been soundly defeated at every turn and are desperate for a good showing. Can you imagine what would be happening right now if Hamas had chemical weapons?

The Israeli's have offered a truce which Hamas turned down , so the alternative is to "take out" Hamas which the Israeli's are capable of, if they could catch them, but how do you tell a "civilian" from a terrorist when the terrorists wear the same gear as ordinary people .

I think Israel is trying to find out where all these rocket boosters are and take them out, just like in any war.

They do... remember Chemical weapons smuggled out of Syria? They are headed towards the battlefield against Israel, Iraqi, Afghanstan, and already used in Syria.

If anyone causes a mass casualty event in Israel using GAS, FGS, there is going to be sheer hell to pay. Maybe Hamas figures that would be a bridge too far PR - wise.

That is because every time the Pals go to negotiate 'peace' with the Zionists, the first thing Israel demands of the Pals is, "If you want peace, you must forever give up your "Right of Return" - which means the Palestinians can never go home.

Here in the West - especially America, we then hear in the media, "Palestinians reject peace offer by Israel"

docyabut2, you appear to be yet another victim of "News by Jews".

Lets bury this once and for all.

If you are a "Palestinian", then you have zero "right of return" to the Nation of Israel.

Your 'return' rights are to Palestine (e.g. the new nation).

The Palestinian Authority agrees with this.

No one said they couldn't go home, the only reason the "Palestinians left their homes and went to gaza was to get way from the pass wars. I `m sure there are many "Palestinians still living in Israel.

Anybody who was born there has a right to return, as do their children if they were being held back from going to their rightful homeland.

I agree....the propaganda offensive by Hamas...ie using civilians as human shields...

was getting results...ie. dead civilians...dead women...dead children...

so even though the Israeli military were trying to minimise civilian deaths...they must have known

that they had to do something else...and a ground offensive would be more accurate, militarily..

and was the obvious next step...?

As Hamas would NOT stop firing rockets..

I think Israel is trying to find out where all these rocket boosters are and take them out, just like in any war.

thanks.....yes

This is a much deeper problem and far more complex than just that.

Christians fought a series of crusades against Muslims to liberate the holy land. (and against various European pagans, but that is another story)

America tends to look at Israel and the Jews as having a right to exist. This stems from the Nazi deliberate and sustained effort to kill every Jewish man, woman and child.

So the bias is much older than modern media.

All sides are wrong and all sides are right. The question is how right and how wrong.

Based on US standards, citing the reasons for the US Revolution and why the US even exists at all, this isn't about higher taxes or not having English Gentleman's rights that they enjoy in London. This is way past that. This is way past the point of Minutemen pulling their rifles out.

Oh wait, Palestinians aren't allowed guns. "Like any other war." Uh duh. This politically correct issue can make an anti-gun nutjob out of the most peculiar of people; of course that's another rife double standard in the Zionist hypocrisy. Both the left and the right sing from the same hymnbook on Israel.
