Japan: cat island has more cats than humans

Still Waters

Recommended Posts

Tashirojima, an island off the east coast of Japan, is completely and utterly overrun by cats and it's just like being a crazy cat lady in the best possible way ever.

With only 100 humans on the island, the population is mostly made up of incredibly cute stray cats - which thrive because locals believe that feeding them will bring them good wealth and fortune.

Nothing against feeding them, but have they ever heard of spaying an neutering? An island is the ideal place to get a cat population under control being a closed habitat.

I heard that's the island where Schrödinger used to go on vacation... or was it?

How do you make sure they ALL get enough food? Some of those cats look really hungry, although none look like they are suffering from malnutrition.

Still, it would constantly bother me, I don't think I could live there without bankrupting myself first in getting them all spayed and secondly in keeping them all fed.

And not only that, rumor has it that it used to be his favorite holiday resort...

Yes, but not quite such a pleasant place though, it seems...

Hundreds of cats take over island in New York

TONAWANDA ISLAND , N.Y., Aug. 1 (UPI) -- They might not have a council or a conch, but cats have completely taken over an island in the middle of the Niagara River in New York.

Locals estimate that Tonawanda Island now has hundreds of abandoned and feral cats roaming its shores.

People don't live on the 85-acre island year-round, but the cats now do.

Bunny Island is fun too.

And everywhere is an improvement on the Isle of Sheppey! (If you have to ask then you've never been there!)
