Still Waters Posted August 12, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 12, 2014 Untested drugs can be used to treat patients infected with the Ebola virus, the World Health Organization says. The WHO said it was ethical in light of the scale of the outbreak and high number of deaths - more than 1,000 people have died in West Africa. The statement was made after its medical experts met in Switzerland on Monday to discuss the issue. But officials warned there were very limited supplies of potential treatments. http://www.bbc.co.uk...africa-28754160
Lilly Posted August 12, 2014 #2 Share Posted August 12, 2014 No kidding, if you're going to die anyway why not try an experimental drug? I know I'd be willing.
toast Posted August 13, 2014 #3 Share Posted August 13, 2014 BTW, the medication is named ZMapp. And, important, it isn`t a vaccine: Is ZMapp a vaccine? No. ZMapp is being developed as a therapeutic product for treatment of people infected with Ebola virus, but not to prevent infection in the same manner as a vaccine. http://www.cdc.gov/vhf/ebola/outbreaks/guinea/qa-experimental-treatments.html Actual problem: The maker of the experimental Ebola drug that was given to two infected Americans said Monday that its supply has been exhausted after the company provided doses to a West African nation. http://online.wsj.com/articles/maker-of-experimental-zmapp-ebola-drug-says-its-supply-is-exhausted-1407799150
