Fresh tarmac on the roads and pavements (sidewalk) makes me happy.  It doesn't last long but does feel nice underfoot.

That must be nice; we are waiting for paving out here and don't expect there will ever be sidewalks.  Still, that makes for very few cars.

A night on the town in Battambang might involve a stroll along the river, and maybe a pizza that isn't really a pizza (if you know what I mean) and a bumpy ride home.  At my age that is enough.

Awhile back I saw an almost-grown puppy wildly running in the fields rubbing its body and whining.  It was infested with some sort of skin parasite.  I wrapped it in a blanket and took it to a vet (with all my animals I'm a good customer), who gave it some shots and kept it a few days until the parasites were gone.  The dog is now part of my pack (I have a dozen) and obviously happy -- no one ever claimed it.

Seeing a young boy in the street throw candy wrapper on the ground then stop, turn around to pick it back up again and go put it in a litter bin 20 yards away has made me happy.

Am getting old, I reckon, if this is the sort of thing that cheers me.

When I moved to Cambodia, I made a deal with a farmer here that I would build my house and houses for his family in return for lifetime tenancy (as a foreigner I cannot own).  (What I build is not elaborate, as I have no need to be ostentatious -- in fact that would be a mistake -- but it is a huge improvement -- things like indoor toilets and hot showers and microwave ovens and so on).

They have adopted me into the family, so now I have two families -- this one and the one in Vietnam.

This place is positively swarming with toddlers, and it is such a joy to be able to raise their living standard and their diet and give them the chance for education.  Of course they don't understand, but the seem to since they all treat me with such affection (of course I'm an old man and age in Asia gets affection automatically, so I can't assume too much).

One of the things the locals can't afford is raisins, so every now and then I put out a big jar of them.  Oh boy you wouldn't believe the near riot that ensues as the word gets around and kids appear from everywhere.

A packet of chocolate raisins makes me happy.  I only eat them as a treat; once a month or so.

Combining good food with good company makes me happy e.g. quality eating and harmonious vibes - especially if we tend to make each other laugh a lot!
