What the ISIS is going on!?

Hmmm.......

I can only imagine these are going to be reconaissance/intel-gathering ? I know that the various Special Forces are supposed to be very tough, and eat rocks etc, but 150 seems like a rather small number for such a large area.

Forward air controllers/artillary spotters, perhaps ?

Its quite a large force really! SAS typically operate in groups of 4, but youre right with the reconnaissance/intel-gathering. For example, when you see lazer guided pinpoint strikes, thats because of special forces, they go in and hide by day, come out at night and find targets, they have a special invisible lazer which they aim at the targets from a distance, this then gives exact target co-ordinates...these get fed into overhead drones or planes who then...do air-strikes.

Their missions can vary apart from that, they CAN and DO go in and create mayhem.. kill key figures with sniper shots, blow up things, organise and train the locals etc etc. They are so much more involved than the govts let on and we wont hear about for many years, if ever

so about 37 group's of 4 have gone in from what we are told....but the article states '150 more'... in other words, SAS have already been there for some time. You wont hear stories of many IS fighters obliterated by the SAS, but they do it, trust me...usually the credit goes to the natives. SAS are always the first in, long before we get told about them

Hmm.... but of course "Special Forces" doesn't necessarily mean SAS. There is also the Special Reconnaissance Regiment and the Special Forces Support Group (a mixture of Royal Marines, Parachute Regiment soldiers, RAF Regiment etc) that provide auxilary firepower and and other backup services to the Special Forces.

Presumably the Special Boat Squadron would NOT be involved ! :D

Great Britain's Special Operation Forces and Seals Teams are exactly the same thing, special operation services that are not meant to be in the spot light, they have a long history working together and learning tactics from each other's operations. Great Britain's Special Operation Forces and Seals are trained in numerous ways to prepare them for different scenarios, since I am a U.S. citizen, I wanted to be an Seal first and foremost while putting myself in dangerous situation. Sadly I couldn't even get into the navy, due to the fact of my hearing. If you want the best defense against ISIL for key locations, you go with Great Britain's Special Operation Forces excluding the Seals who are not allowed to set foot in Iraq. Escorting and protecting the convoy is the Peshmergers job, while United States is providing air cover for the convey and keeping ISIL heavy armor or large enemy units away from the convoy.

I think S.A.S. long since had a name change, much like Seals go through many times, to keep them from the front pages of the news. Obama blew their cover stating they took down Osama Bin Laden, which pretty much was the most stupid thing you can do to the Seals Team Six. These troops are trained for rapid deployment, securing key positions, hostage recovery, and sabotage behind enemy lines.

Yes the credit usually goes to the native army or natives in the region the operation was taken place, to keep them out of the spotlight and hidden in the shadows. They do their best work in the shadows.

I remember a comedy sketch years ago by the much-missed sketch group "Not The Nine 'O Clock News".

The scene was a rustic restaurant on some idylic tropical island somewhere. A western couple enter and sit down. The Waiter approaches but - before he can take their order, there is a sudden kerfuffle out of sight (presumably in the Kitchen). A Che-gevara like figure dashes in, and announces that the restaurant has been liberated for the the masses by the Peoples Revolutionary Committee. The Bourgeois menu has been scrapped, and a new menu would shortly be established.

The western couple look suprised, but not unduly alarmed.

There is another kerfuffle in the background, and some gunshots. A figure in military fatigues enters with a rifle, and announces that Government Forces have driven the Marxist Rebels away, and that the proper, government menu will shortly be re-issued.

This goes on and on and on and on, with various different armed groups LOUDLY announce that they are taking control of the restaurant, to the background of automatic gunfire, explosions and - at one point - a tank barrel pokes its way through the wall, and jet aircraft noises are heard overhead.

Each armed faction keeps charging in, announcing their name and mandate loudly, and making extravagant promises of a new menu, but no menu every appears, let along any actual FOOD, merely more damage to the Restaurant, and more noisy political posturing.. ... and the western couple are getting hungry.

Suddenly, there is a helicopter noise. A crate is lowered on a rope down through the roof, and onto the table. The crate unfolds, to reveal pre-set plates, knives forks etc, complete with a tureen of stew, and dishes of various vegetables. .. there is even a bottle of wine, glasses, and two candles.

Rowen Atkinson emerges from the shadows in an immaculate tuxedo. He pours the wine, lights the candles, and retreats back into the shadows with a whispered...

"SAS... bon apetit"

Class !

Really dude... do you have to somehow bring up isreal in every thread

Did ISIS ever mention Israel? That could be relevant to what in the ISIS is going on, if so it'd be inconvenient for the media spin.

Or maybe try not to be so viciously anti semitic? You can get your points across without some of the stuff you trowel on, man. But that's your call.

same old arguments again. It is not anti semitic, it is anti Israel or anti zionist is more precise, actually

What your saying to me is tantamount to being in a WWII bulletin and my rippin gup the Nazis gets met with "you are anti-german"..

jeesh

Yes, you didn't know? One of their long term goals is to destroy Israel

With all this going on, and the horror and fear this ISIS are giving out, what kind of severe dark "magic" will this all generate?

To be clear, Isis is the name of a powerful ancient solar goddess. Her name is being twisted by this group of extremists who have done far worse than others before them. It's like when the SS used the ancient solar symbol as their flag, resulting in destruction and death.

I'd have thought that was apparent in the name: ISLAMIC state.... The Quran calls for it prior to the last days.

you don't have to infer that by their name/meaning, they openly said this

The US has now carried out at least 68 air-strikes! So the tables are turning! The IS fighters who just a couple of weeks ago were confidently taunting people on social media and beheading large groups of men, have now gone considerably quieter. After all, where just a few weeks ago no-one really stood in their way, now they must be worried to be in a convoy or stronghold anywhere... with the knowledge the SAS are lurking, watching their every move, along with the expectation that they will be blown to bits at any time by a missile.. ha!

I hate to disappoint you, Seeder, but ISIS is more than a rag-tag grouping of psychopaths, bent on Islamic Jihad.. they are well organised, supplied and trained, hell i hear they even have a APP to join and donate to. They had/have help from the West and their Middle Eastern Allies like the Turks and Jordanians. These air strikes a more of a 'get back in line, ISIS' rather than an attack to destroy, which lets face it the West could easily do, if it wanted too.. remember, these nut-jobs were fighting the West's war in Syria not that long ago..

But I never said they were a rag tag group! A terrorist army of approx 7,000 fighters is what they are. Which also of course includes many young, untrained waiters from kebab shops in the UK and Europe! So they began to try and take over Iraq and no-one really challenged them such was the fear they instilled in advance and they seized things like military hardware, banks money, oil depots, and of course the dam, which they have now lost, perhaps due to their great organisation and good training

So, them having tank's and hardware makes them more powerful...and.. a superb stand out target for air-strikes, as has been happening, and will continue to happen. They may have tanks, humvee's, heavy cannon, but none are a match for a surgical strike, and this they now know.

Now we have started the fight against them, it will continue.. and theres nothing so good as special forces on the ground and air strikes to start making ISIS a much less powerful and feared force.

Launching all dummies.

At some point in the future, some idiot western bureaucrat will be standing in front of a podium with a serious look on their face telling us that we couldn't have seen the latest terrorist attack coming.

CNN interviewing people crying,"Why us? Why here in our backyard? What did we (America) do to deserve this?"

Meanwhile Ron Paul (the invisible man) will be saying, yet again, "I keep trying to tell you but you refuse to listen"

What the hell is going on with this terrorist group? I saw the most disturbing video today of ISIS members lining people up, shooting them and pushing them into a hole one by one. This organization is now MASS exterminating individuals. Literally a whole new genocide. The U.S comes in to support these poor folks with food and water as well as airstrike some of ISIS weapons caches. These terrorists are now hiding behind innocent civilians. They are spreading like a cancer. What do you guys think will be the end result of this.. Did anyone see the young kid yelling about how ISIS will split up AMERICA. Think about the members of ISIS, there is a good share of kids also. Its a mess whats going on there. I was looking for a major thread just focused on this ISIS issue and couldn't find anything. Obama hasnt done crapola yet, and he wants to stay out, but what I dont agree with is we have the power to easily stop this group. The reason they've spread is because no-one has intervened and these poor people are literally being lined up and shot. There's really no argument other then something needs to be done. You can't have a mass genocidal type terrorist organization running a country (trying too).

Ya ya, people say foxnews is one-sided and yes it leans to the right.. HOWEVER!!!! I want you guys to watch link from 43seconds to about 1min... Those are ISIS members brainwashed. HOWEVER, they will shoot back at any ALLIED solider they could given the chance..

http://www.foxnews.c...tcmp=latestnews

I suspect there is CIA involvement in ISIL They are way too successful, way too organized to have done anything like this without help. No, I don't have a link to back it up. It is what I perceive is happening, based on events that have happened in the past.

excuse me, 15,000 rag tags that pick on the sick, the poor, the weak. How much bombing did it take to tame them?

Come on! Many standing armies in the ME could flatten them, if they really had to

Oh really ?

Dunno whether you noticed, EoT, but Iraq is firmly in the Middle East, and their standing army failed spectacularly. (to the extent of surrendering their armouries to the IS).

I'm not being entirely arch here. The IS's success relied heavily on the complicity of the local Sunni population (including that in the standing army).

And there are a LOT of Sunni's throughout the Middle East. Including in Jordan and Saudi Arabia. And they ALL have a bit of a gripe against their respective Kings.

I wouldn't assume they have been tamed in any way....I think two scenarios are being played out for the media here - western politicians know that the public have no stomach for another fight, so the "no boots on the ground" is being played out for the public....however I suspect special forces and air strikes will be hunting these people away from the cameras for quite some time to come.

It was a step to far to expect the Iraqi army to handle ISIS....the old guard was dismantled, the new army are no match for any military force - give them a few more decades and they might make the grade.

Iraq army laid down like sheep. Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Syria - if they weren't at war already, could topple IS.

they have BOMBS and JETS to deliver the bombs. What does IS have, a stolen tank and helo that nobody knows how to use?

I suspect you are right.

Can you recall 1990, Persian Gulf invasion? I don't care how good of fighters the Iraq standing army was or the Elite Guard, they are no match for BOMBS being dropped on them and they had nothing that could stop the West's jet fighters that delivered those bombs. By the time our boots "hit the ground", it was O-V-A, over!

If the situation in Iraq/Syria gets out of hand with IS, another week or two of bombing will tame them, once again.
