questionmark Posted August 15, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted August 15, 2014 Surely flights would of been grounded?, even if its a small one? In Europe tornadoes are very uncommon. I t could be that the weather guys did not even see it coming.

Princess Serenity Posted August 15, 2014 #6 Share Posted August 15, 2014 Good thing that plane made it to Spain safely! It would have been a different matter if it hadn't. What was the pilot thinking?

Peter B Posted August 16, 2014 #8 Share Posted August 16, 2014 Surely flights would of been grounded?, even if its a small one? Presumably depends on how far away the tornado was from the airport. The photo doesn't allow us to tell.

Oppono Astos Posted August 16, 2014 #10 Share Posted August 16, 2014 Calm down, it was a funnel cloud, not tornado... While the US statistically has the most tornadoes per year, actually the UK has more tornadoes per year relative to its land area than any other country - its the the intensity/strength of tornadoes here that are less. http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/climate-information/extreme-events/us-tornado-climatology
StRoostifer Posted August 16, 2014 #11 Share Posted August 16, 2014 Of course the plane made it to Spain without incident. It was flying AWAY from the funnel cloud upon take off. Just a bit of sensationalism on the writers part. Very cool pic tho!
