NATO debates missile shield VS Russia

With fears of Moscow growing after its intervention in Ukraine, NATO member states in Eastern Europe would like NATO to direct a planned missile-defense system against Russia as well. The calls have divided the military alliance.

NATO officials are considering deploying a long-planned missile defense system -- aimed at protecting Europe from attacks from the Middle East -- against Russia as well, SPIEGEL has learned.

Calls for such an expansion to the system's remit, which is backed by the United States, are growing in Poland as well as in NATO member states Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia. In the run-up to next week's NATO summit, the four countries called for the remaining members to agree on language at the summit that would pave the way for the plan. They feel threatened by Russia's intervention in Ukraine.

I don't blame people in Eastern Europe for being concerned. Look what Russia has been doing lately.

Well too be honest NATO's missile shield and its eventual expansion into ukraine is what is causing much of the issues europe is facing today. Russia is doing what it believes are in its national interests. Nato is just aggravating the issue even further.

All Russia has to do is stop sending soldiers into Ukraine and there wouldn't be a problem. I would say Russia is the one doing the aggravating.

The son of star wars or the US missile defence shield, based in Europe. under the guise of stopping Intercontinental ballistic missiles from Iran. But we all know it's primary aim is and always was Russia. Did no one pay attention as to why the idea was shelved last time around? It seems the Baltic state leaders calling for the system have. The consequences of basing the system in Europe will be Russia openly placing tactical nuclear weapons in kaliningrad. which then creates a bigger headache. the strategic location is clear if one looks at the map and sees where Kaliningrad is located. surrounded by EU and NATO members. But to the foolish leaders calling for the shield, let them have it - then lets jump up and down, stamp our feet when Russia counteracts it by placing missiles in Kaliningrad, and increases its Baltic fleet. causing more tensions in the Baltic sea and North Sea.
