Security alert at White House as 'quad copter

Like I said earlier. This is nothing new. Just because you add the name "drone" to it, means nothing. People in America have been flying remote control aircraft for DECADES. It has been regulated, and regulated well. I really can't fathom the fact that people think this is something new. Add a camera to it and it is a whole new beast? Nope.

Without the cams its just a hobbyist toy ~

Indeed, what's the American law on surveillance cameras?

what do you consider surveillance cameras?? are security cameras on my house, or dashcam in my car considered surveillance cameras? they are both legal

Add a bomb to it and its a whole new beast. I hear what you say about RC craft, and of course THEY have been around for years...most of the ones I saw as a kid, were noisy, smokey airplanes/choppers with real combustion engines. They went up, flew circuits, landed.

However the 'new' quad copters are a different beast, a lot quieter, some even virtually silent, and some have high lift capabilities, which is why Amazon (for one) want to use them for parcel delivery, so in that respect, the new type drones are a new chapter in RC craft.

As I said earlier, strap, a bomb to it, fly it into a crowd and you'll cause a major incident before most people would have heard or even seen it

lol, have you even been around such drone? or any modern rc plane? they are noisy too, none of them is virtually silent, where do you get your info from? same for homebuild rc craft that uses electric motors. even tiny indoor helicopters are noisy. you will definatly hear them comming.

Erm, where have you been lately, living under a rock?

here is a drone flying indoors, with a guy not even having to raise his voice to the audience as it flies just above his head :tu:, so "virtually silent" still stands. Especially if these drones were outside in all the ambient noise,

In reading the article you see one guy owns up to it. But still, it just shows how the drones could be used

the guy was drunk. they should charge him with a dui.

the guy has a mic next to his mouth, that is why he does not need to raise his voice to the audience, and still you can clearly hear it running.

i actually fly rc helicopters for a while, so forgive me for not taking a word of someone that has no practical experience with them. they are not silent. period

Tough having to admit youre wrong isnt it? It hovers just above his head but his mic hardly hears it

i'm not wrong, you are, these things are not virtualy silent as you claimed, far from it. i know it from experience, you do not. that is all there is to it,.

lol, everything is if you are deaf.

but i can garantee you, if you are not deaf, you will hear it coming, the heavier it is the more lift it needs, more noise it makes. a 60AMP outruner motor on full blast will scream so loud you'd want to cover your ears if next to it.

I enjoyed your post, however...... here in Murica, budweiser is measured in good old imperial ounces, 12 to a can. Cheers.

Oh and what dont I know? Ive had RC aircraft when I was kid and both my boys had them when they were younger. We even had an RC speedboat Ive flown them, the boys flew them. The chopper was the noisiest but at a hundred meter high you can barely hear it.

You didnt watch that vid did you? You dont want to be wrong, do you after asserting your expert opinion on everyone else. Had you watched the vid, from about 9.50 mins in there are 3 quads being used to play catch with a net. 3 of them, sounds no more than louder than a beehive

i'm not wrong, thinking you saw a video and you know how it sounds live, is wrong. i'm not asserting my expert opinion on everyone else, i only tell you, that you are wrong, you are not everyone else, and again, i see hear these things live you obviously do not.

why don't you look at some videos from a shooting range., lol all guns are pretty quiet there,. do you think they are as quiet in real life?

Just cant take it can you? Both vids I showed were very quiet indeed. Ive seen countless vids on youtube of 'typical' quads...and YES they are ALL noisy..

Just not the ones I posted. As Im sure others will agree. Deal with it. I wont be arguing the toss again..

you seem to be too fast to use 'everyone else", "all others will agree".. lets just talk about YOURSELF, lets leave others alone, shell we.

and again you did not actually have practical experience with them, your arguments based on videos you saw, that YOU THINK reproduce sound correctly. lmao. that is really enough for me to ignore anything you have to say on the matter.

not for nothing but this drone tech will revolutionise small helicopters, they can be build\maintained a lot cheaper, no transmissions, no turbines, no drive shafts, and no dealing with engine tourge.

just batteries\ computer and dozen or more motors,

I don't get what how loud they are has to do with this conversation. The FAA sets regulations. Period. Of course people will break the rules, but that's the nature of the beast. People breaking the rules because their quadcopters are so very quiet does not mean they can't be regulated...
