You get huge people, huge dogs, huge rabbits etc etc. Could the sightings actually have been real and they were just well known species in the area that were unusually large? Once I saw an over sized vulture. Where I am there are only black vultures and turkey vultures, but this one had a featherless purplish black head and crooked neck. But, because there is no proof, maybes are irrelevant. Do we have any reason to believe that there was a four metre shadow, beyond "hey, maybe it happened"? Take a look at the second post in this thread, where I say basically the same thing you just did. I agree that it is possible, in theory, but the statement of "maybe these people saw what they said they saw" is a much too simple conclusion to draw, as it assumes that everyone who has ever reported a thunderbird did, in fact, see a giant bird. I do not think that everyone who reports a thunderbird has, in fact, seen a giant bird. I'm not writing off the remote, remote possibility that thunderbirds MAY have existed once in the distant past, but to attribute modern sightings to an undiscovered giant bird with a four-metre wingspan? I just stated that the shadow may have been over 14 ft because we all know how large a shadow can be of just a small object. Suppose a hawk with a 4 ft wingspan passed fairly low over a couple kids on a sunny day. The shadow may have been 14-18 ft long which would have scared the crap out of them. What I saw flew out of a dilapidated building in the woods. The big vulture then perched itself on a tree bough around 12' above my head.
