Iran blows up fake US carrier

So the Iranian military felt the need to construct a near full-size replica of a Nimitz class aircraft carrier simply so they could then blow it up in last week's war games. The Iranians have also built fake stealth aircraft and drones in the past and shown them off to the world.

Apparently they are trying to dominate the field of large-scale model making.

Iran blasts mock U.S. carrier in war games

(CNN)Iran blasted its mock-up of a U.S. aircraft carrier during naval drills on Wednesday, swarming the target with 100 speedboats armed with rockets, shoulder-launched missiles and mortars as well as striking it with cruise missiles, according to reports from Iran's semi-official Fars News Agency.

This was funny of them. Do they really imagine any of their little boats could get near enough to an aircraft carrier to attack it?

That's kind of a childish thing to do in my view but we shouldn't expect Iran to have any great love for the US and it's unstinting Pro-Israeli policies. Perhaps the message they wanted to send is that they won't let anyone step on their toes. Anyway, Iranian propaganda is not very different from ours after all, didn't we made a NATO military parade at less than 300 yards from Russia's borders this week?(1)

What about Kim Jung-Un and North Korea? Because last time I checked it's 100% proven that NK is developping nuclear weapons and they are not exactly friendly to the US.

I fail to see your point? No one wants a nuclear North Korea either...

But North Korea is already nuclear(1), and it is only met with economic sanctions, nothing else. Would the US bomb them also? Technically, NK is not acting outside international law, they have taken legal steps to be free of the NPT. That's my point.

"Would the US bomb them also"

First off your assuming all kinds of things that I didn't say.

All I said is I don't want Iran to have nukes. Or North Korea. I only support real democracies having nukes because then it's not the choice of one man but of the whole population. Therefore less likely to ever be used

It's common logic to not want people who hate you and may be mentally unstable to have weapons that can blow you away.

I don't want to derail this thread. All I'm saying is I'd rather these people not have nukes

It was constructed for a film, I seem to recall (it's not a new story, it was around some time ago), about the shooting down of Iran Air 655 (remember that? Possibly one reason why the goat lickers might not always be overflowing with love for the United States), and if they wanted to do something with it then they may as well use it for target practise. I suppose.

If we hold an election in north Korea and Iran wether to have nukes or not, I am pretty sure that majority will vote yes.

I am not sure Pakistan and Israel are 'real' or 'true' democracy(1)(2), at least not in the classical Western definition of the concept. At any rate, even if I am wrong, their 'democracy' seems to hang by a thread. Yet both state have active nuclear programs, and as a matter of fact Pakistan could have 200 nuclear arms by 2020.(3)

I agree with that, though it is to be wondered why exactly do they 'hate' one's state? Do they have any legitimate reasons to despise our policies or is it only because they are deluded fanatics?

Apparently there was a documentary called "Sunday Morning Flight" that aired on Iranian TV last July, but there doesn't seem to be anything specific about the movie in any sources I found other than this mention:

http://www.al-monito...nger-plane.html

There may also be another movie in development according to the article.

But according to CNN, this "aircraft carrier" just came on the scene about a year ago.

http://security.blog...rcraft-carrier/

It doesn't really make sense to build an almost full-scale replica of a US aircraft carrier to shoot a documentary about a plane that was shot down by a guided missile fired from a cruiser. Seems like a huge expense and undertaking for no real reason.

Not to mention, when the USS Vincennes shot down the Iran Air airliner while participating in escort duties at the behest of the Kuwaiti Government during Operation Earnest Will, there were no Nimitz Class carriers in the Persian Gulf.

Well as I said above, that's a lot of work to make something for a movie that really had nothing to do with the incident in question.

If they're taking that kind of liberties with the truth, makes you wonder what the rest of the movie is going to be like.

So can we assume they shot the movie and the "ship" was donated to the military for their war games?

Last March, google Maps/Earth hadn't been updated yet but she's on the slips now with a full squadron on the flight deck. That got me curious so I checked in at Bremerton and Newport News and you could see many of the older super carriers tied up, rusting, awaiting disposal. It was enough to break your heart. Oh what you could do to ISIS or even Iran with those babies! But near by was the new generation of carriers being completed. That was the only high point in today's news with the destruction of priceless history at one end and the destruction of our Constitution at the other, with this Net Neutrality and ammo bands (just a few of the long list of transgressions against the American People). If we can't defeat our domestic and foreign enemies, perhaps we don't deserve to exist? I’d love to see the faces of the Liberals when they realize the truth and it’s too late.

There are no real democracies in the world, so noone should have nukes.

When Japan was attacked, the US population wanted a complete genocide, wiping Japan off the map, luckily only 2 large civilian targets were hit, still an attrocity, but if it was up to the average joe in the US at the time, there would be no Japan left.

Your obsession with wanting to attack Iran over nothing is borderline obsessive. Get some help.

It's how Americans are raised these days, war, war, war, it drives the economy.
