From an outsider looking in...it dosnt really matter which party gets in you are rulled by europe and puppet to America!

UK is a shadow of its former self, it was once the greatest country on earth! Innovation, invention, industry, military strenth, "Great" Britain was at the forefront of everything! the history books are filled with british conquests, they led the industrial revolution, And had the largest empire per area! i dare say a huge amount of the modern world can trace its ancestry back to the british Isles... but what happend..... politics destroyed the greatest country on earth!

Churchill could be described as the last great leader of Great Britain, from then on each prime minister/political party has slowly destroyed the uk, the steel works, ship building, textiles, automotive industry, mining, overseas trade dwindled to nothing, even agriculture is so unprofitable it is subsidised by the government,i would go as far to say that the only real large industrie left in the uk is forestry and related business. Everything elese being privatised and farmed out to foreign countries!

the great nation went from rulling the world to trying to please the world and in the process lost everything that made them the country they were!

a point about Scotland and the decentralising of powers, it takes time two years. those Scots who think they would get them overnight don't understand the complexity of it all. Its like the Referendum, if they'd have returned a YES vote it would have taken at least two years for before they would gain Independence.

The Scots need a good dose of reality, So i agree the quicker we decentralise certain powers the better. and the SNP, if they'd have got their way would have bankrupted Scotland, they already had a 12% deficit and that was with a Oil price of $85 Dollars a barrel. at the current low price of $52 their spending plans would be in tatters. and no doubt when they came to explain this to their voters - them crashing the Scottish economy into the dirt - the SNP would blame the English.

Tell me about it. The SNP - and Labour, to a degree - are playing their usual game up here. "Oooh, we know best. You can trust us not to lie to you!" Ignore the past record, if you don't mind you mugs - oops, we mean

dear voters - and just vote on the heartstring argument. Don't let pesky intelligence sway your vote...

Two days back, passing through the delightful seaside town of Portobello on the way to work, I saw from the bus window a mob outside a wee café. Inside was our brave First Minister Sturgeon, an adoring crowd - plus cameras - gazing in admiration at her. You may have seen the film on TV. What you didn't get was the fact that pretty much aside from the staff in the café, everyone else was a SNP supporter bussed in the make it look like there was a spontaneous mob there. They're not alone in this, as Labour is traveling around with their own rentamob to bolster the inconvienent truth that not all the public are happy to see a chinless prat making bold promises you know as a cynic will never - if at all - be delievered.

Empires always fall, a sad fact of life. Britain had its turn, and now we only have our past glories to remember.

Um, no. This is not what happened. If you want to comment on the decline of a country other than your own, at least have the courtesy to do some research so you know what you are talking about.

You have disagreed, but not came back with any form of opposing argument! Other than telling me to do some research!

You go and do some research and structure yourself a decent comeback!

I thought we could do with a thread for general discussion about the election -

Not long to go now

Here's one of the charts about voting intention

http://www.dailymail...tinue-drop.html

On TV there is constant reference to the 'three main parties' - but as UKIP seems to have more support than the Lib Dems -

Shouldn't this be the 'four main parties' - and now with all the hype about the SNP - perhaps even the FIVE main parties - ?

I think we are heading to a three party coalition and I'm not 100% sure it will be Conservative led.

That is the worst outcome for this Nation. three socialist parties offering money the country simply does not have. so if you are correct. in the next Parliament expect higher taxes, higher borrowing, and a return to a bloated public service and after all this is done, nothing will have changed. in fact it will have made matters worse - and come the next election in five years time the parties will be still fighting over the same issues as today and so the politics of failure will continue. National debt will continue, and we'll continue to slip down the slippery slope as a Nation in decline. One day the populous will wake up and wonder how it all happened. - but at the end of the day - we ultimately end up with the government we deserve.

Neither a Conservative or Labour led coalition is right for the country. I am going to vote UKIP to grow the party. If we don't grow it so its big enough to form a government in the next general election or the one after its over for Britain (in my opinion).

We all know the 'EU referendum' promise by David Cameron is a lie. It either won't happen or the question won't be the one we all want. Labour has got no chance with Ed leading it (although he could ally with SNP and the Libs).

I've been thinking, and I've just had a brilliant idea about how to encourage more people to Vote, since those who wish to have control over us seem to insist that that's important for some reason. Why not, rather than putting a cross next to the name of the contender you desire, which seems a bit stern and disapproving doesn't it, why not draw a smiley face! That would show that you really approve of them and their bold package of policies. And put a cross next to all the ones that you don't like, to show your disapproval. I'm sure it'd be a winner.

It really is a shambles when no Government will win a majority because they won't give people what they want. Yet they collectively can still rule and continue to impose their rubbish onto us. Disgraceful.

Fortunately UKIP will not get more than 1 or 2 MP's and farage will probably lose in his constituency precipitating the collapse of the party. Result.

As for the difference between the Conservatives and Labour, it largely comes down to who gets a slice of the cherry pie since the conservatives have presided over an expansion of the national debt over the last 5 years. Fairly inevitable really in a depressed world economy and putting the lie to the claim that they have managed the economy well (they have managed it well for the rich who have increased their wealth over their term of government).

Cameron will be a one term PM, and a very bad one at that. Oh, I have to say it Cameron is a podgy faced goon to boot

It will be interesting to see how well UKIP does - there could be a lot more people going to vote for them than

are letting on - Nige said as much in a recent interview - and we'll see if this is what happens -

They evidently have more support than the LIb Dems but this might not translate into seats - - - ?

The bookies generally have their finger on the pulse and they aren't sure either -

http://www.theweek.co.uk/election-2015/62858/general-election-odds-2015-who-the-bookies-are-backing

All agree that the Conservatives will end up with the most seats, with odds no more generous than 1/5 available across the board. Labour is between 7/2 and 9/2 to be the biggest party.

But when it comes to selecting the next PM, most bookmakers are offering the same odds on either Ed Miliband or David Cameron, with 10/11 available for either party leader from several sources. Overall, the most generous return available is evens for Miliband, suggesting some bookies at least make Cameron the marginal favourite.

So Labour would be your choice?

Labour won't win, they will come second. They nationalised the banks giving us our national debt, Gordon Brown grew it, Ed Miliband has no charisma and his plans forward are poor. But I do think they will be leading a three party coalition Government.

So Labour would be your choice?

i think a coalition between Labour and the SNP would be good for the country. The problem with the UK government is that it is dominated by the interests of London and the South East. Such a coalition would force a re-balancing of the power structures of the UK and change the dynamic away from monied vested interests in London.

Do you honestly believe that the Conservatives would have done anything different. Be honest now, you know they would not because they are packed to the gunnels with banking lobbyists.

I did see speculisation that they might decide to have another election in a few months time if they don't achieve a conclusive result this time. This seems an admirable idea to me. What?, you query, would I want to live in a state of perpetual electioneering?! No, but look at it this way: whatever politicians do is always and invariably makes things worse, isn't it. So if there was, effectively, no Government in the sense of politicians ********ing everything up and messing about with "Reforms" of everything, the NHS particularly, and, most of all, without them getting involved with military Interventions, (sorry, Humanitarian interventions, of course), but just left things to run themselves, I wonder if we'd really be any less happy? I mean, Belgium went without a Government for a couple of years recently, and it didn't seem to break down into civil war or collapse into a Yemen-style shambles. (Also remember that the danger from Terrorism, which is one of the biggest things that Governments tell us they have to protect us from, is very largely a result of the policies and behaviours of Governments in the past. If we didn't keep *****ing up people's lives all over the Middle East and north Africa, would even the most fundamentalist terrorist really have any beef with us? ) So i say: Why not have no Government at all, or least no Parties dominating things. If there was a coalition involving every single party that meant that it was impossible for Government to actually do anything, then bring it on, frankly, is what I say.

got to give that post a  for it's sheer passion -

:)

re the first bit - Nick Clegg has been saying that - like - if you don't give a few seats to us - so we can be the Kingmakers then

you'll have to go through all this again - (so there - and see how you like THAT)

(edit to say - but the Lib Dems will be redundant if Ed dares to team up with the SNP - which he has been saying he won't do )
