The old swamp gas excuse came from Hynek a UFO believer. It is so funny when it looks like sarcasm is being used int his case.

Swamp gas or a weather balloon...Obviously.

Weather balloons filled with swamp gas. Helium is too expensive. :w00t:

Let's see, if these were near LaGuardia and flights weren't grounded, the UFOs must be radar invisible! Definitely an ET>

The Lyrids meteor shower peaked on Thursday and ran through Saturday.

" Another witness, 57-year-old Juan Marrero, claimed to have seen a fireball and two bright streaks that moved across the sky at high speed."

The ISS has also been very visible in the early evening skies above New York over the past week or so. If you've never seen it do a flyover and are prone to believing in UFOs, it can be very convincing.

I like the meteor shower thought. This was probably what he saw.

Sounds like it.

The thing about the ISS though is that it's really big and bright and can easily be mistaken for a fast, low flying, silent aircraft. It also moves differently than traditional aircraft as it's following the curve of the Earth as it comes over.
