There's a suggestion that it could be geological in origin. How the heck is that possible? Now that really does scare me!

In one of the videos a small child seems to be 'frozen', transfixed by the sound. I wonder if animals and birds reacted to it?

NASA reckons the Earth is making sounds all the time and 'if we had antenna instead of ears we'd hear hear them'. So why are we suddenly able to hear them and, most importantly, able to record them?!

This was the hoax that made me hate hoaxers.

This has already been debunked. There's a ton of these on youtube and most of them are just one scene from war of the worlds slowed way down. You can even hear the seagull from that scene slowed down along with the alien walker. This is more of the same. It's called the "Red state hoax" because something like it happened in the movie Red State.

In Wisconsin it was geological and it was just loud banging or cracking. They figured it out, no mystery.

I do invite the atmosphere to make loud crazy noises though. I was quite taken by the idea when I didn't know it was a hoax. I kept wondering when the strange noises were going to come to a sky near me. So silly. SO SILLY! O_O

i actually know what that is. it is infrasound resonating from the earth. our government has been using infrasound to communicate with subs laying off the coasts of russia since at least the 70's. my father is an astronomer in the bay area that knows people. the govt has uses some kind of huge generator that creates super low frequencies that travel right through the earth.

Seems like this sound is only heard in Western countries. Or more likely, people from there insert hoax audio into video recordings.

This is so old, it's from road work being done, the metal shovel of the machine scraping on the road. You can also hear it in the winter with snow plows. Many of the videos are using the same sound, but they're hoaxes, just using recordings.

There were all sorts of fake videos just 5 years ago from the doom porn crowd leading up to 2012. Most of the videos were similar with videos showing very little and dubbed in sound tracks that sounded very similar. MrBene hit the nail on the head by pointing out these are hoaxes.

Sounds such as this have been more often than not shown to be hoaxes. There are other sounds which have been tracked down to factories, construction, meteors, planes, etc. Some sounds have never been connected to a cause.

There are also cases where people try to assign causes that make no sense such as ice break ups in Antarctica and Greenland being heard thousands of miles away. There is no evidence those sounds can be heard at those locations let alone thousands of miles away.

In general, the non-hoax sounds turn out to be due to local events.

Am I the only one noticing the gusts of wind blowing through? Keep your eyes on the bush. Gusts of wind can produce amplified sound waves if it's going through some resonance amplification. Probably something metal to produce a sound like that. My guess would be piping near a construction site.
