I not sure if these Collectivist issues are discrediting him anymore than they are making him more popular by dividing public opinion. Its what the media does best on a daily basis nevermind when the Presidential Reality Show rolls into town every four years.
Lilly Posted August 9, 2015 #453 Share Posted August 9, 2015 How about that Mr Trump is simply a very rich egotistical narcissist who craves the limelight? What better than to run for political office, to stir the pot, to offend anyone and everyone, to say whatever to whomever he pleases? IMO this is all just one great big 'fun fest' for Mr Trump. Hopefully most people will see him for what he is and decide to back someone else. It's a long time until the election and time is not on Mr Trump's side.

Yamato Posted August 9, 2015 #455 Share Posted August 9, 2015 I wasn't particularly referring to posters here. More like Erickson, for example: who's appearing to claim that the blood was a reference to her being on her period - as is the Telegraph, the Guardian, and presumably all of his competitors who are classifying it as an attack on ALL women - such as Jeb Bush, here. Nevertheless, when someone says things that aren't literally true, interpretation is technically necessary. It could be interpreted as hormonal and therefore sexist, do you think Trump's going to admit it if it was? No, it was blood coming out her nose, whatever the hell that's supposed to mean. People interpret what you say, that's a risk one takes when one runs for public office and says ugly stupid things in public.
Yamato Posted August 9, 2015 #456 Share Posted August 9, 2015 Trump is supposed to be the guy who buys our politicians, not runs against them. But he decided to run against them and the GOP is like kids at Christmas.

I don't begrudge any of the "tough" questions that the moderators asked Trump. I think all debate questions should address whatever soft spots a potential candidate might have. They should have asked Rubio more about immigration and the Gang of 8 and Bush as well-- maybe dig into his immigration stance and common core opinion. Just wait until the democrats are on stage, if you want to see some *****-footing. Don't expect any tough questions then-- there would be a huge outcry that it's unfair. I'd like someone to ask Trump if he's going to put America first, or-- like he's indicated on a variety of issues (who he's donated to and why for example) -- is he going to put his own self interests and his business interest first? Will he make the tough decisions even if it is harmful to his personal interests? Will he always protect our bottoms even if it hurts his bottom line? If America was satisfied with someone who always looks out for their own profit first and foremost-- we'd just vote for Hillary.

He's up there telling us who he hates and loves based on his own tiddly personal anecdotes. If we really liked with what Trump thinks, we'd like people who can make deals that don't go bankrupt four times, we'd like people who don't lose debates. Wonder how much money an man would have today if they inherited over $200 million in 1974 and just put it in the bank? He is not really been very good at making deals. Making a get-a-way yes, but making profitable deals no. Bill Gates Gates started making his money about that time founded in garage in 1975.. nowworth $40 billion in real dollars, given billions to charity zero bankruptcies. Trump inherits dads company worth over $200 million. now claims $10 billion in imaginary money 4 bankruptcies and a wake of broke investors, laid off employees. Yamato Posted August 9, 2015 #462 Share Posted August 9, 2015 Since Trump has so much money, has anyone even started to take a good hard look at where his money has been going all these years? He makes a comment in the debate that he's paid the other players on the stage and a few of them start a shouting match with him over not-getting paid. Talk about awkward! He makes a comment in the debate that he's paid the other players on the stage and a few of them start a shouting match with him over not-getting paid. Talk about awkward! The fact is, he has given very little money to anybody, usually in the less than 10k range. he gave more to rick scott in florida than any body. just like all his claims, they are blown out of proportion. He is probably a very in debt millionaire at best with a 10 billion dollar ego. http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2015/08/06/donald-trump-says-he-gave-most-of-his-debate-opponents-campaign-money-he-didnt/ less than 2 million to both parties in total over the last 26 years. hardly in the league with most "billionaires" http://www.politifact.com/punditfact/statements/2015/jul/09/ben-ferguson/donald-trumps-campaign-contributions-democrats-and/

Trump inherits dads company worth over $200 million. now claims $10 billion in imaginary money 4 bankruptcies and a wake of broke investors, laid off employees. Using an interest calculator, about a billion dollars after 41 years @ 5% compounded annually. Bill Gates started one business and he conquered the world. He was sleeping in puddles of his own drool in the computer lab before dropping out of school. Never took showers. Body odor never slowed him down. Donald Trump would have called him a disaster. I wouldn't measure Trump's personal wealth as his ability to make good deals, I would measure the success of his businesses. Bankruptcy is bad for business, right? I have to ask in this Keynesian age of infinite bailouts. If he should be judged by how golden his parachutes were when he ran other people into the ground, then $10 billion would mean he's done very well for himself.
Lilly Posted August 10, 2015 #468 Share Posted August 10, 2015 Forbes puts Mr Trump's worth at about 4 billion. http://www.forbes.com/profile/donald-trump/ This means that he's made some very good business choices despite any of his bad ones. Trump can play the game and he plays it damn well. This doesn't mean (IMO anyway) that he would make a good President.
Yamato Posted August 10, 2015 #469 Share Posted August 10, 2015 The Dems don't really have to say anything about not voting for Trump. He's doing that all by himself. When the discussion becomes about Dems not voting for Trump, you should know you've got problems. Trump can play the game and he plays it damn well. It means he made some very good business choices for himself, despite any of his bad ones, for himself. And since he's all about himself anyway, there is some consistency there.
Yamato Posted August 10, 2015 #470 Share Posted August 10, 2015 I'll put his real worth at 6 billion and almost split the difference between Trump's 10 and Forbes' 4. I don't think Forbes is considering the allure of the Trump brand, which imho is a storehouse of value that Forbes won't take into account. Personal wealth is all just paper wealth until you cash in anyway.
Yamato Posted August 10, 2015 #471 Share Posted August 10, 2015 If Trump is the 133rd richest person in the country, the only way he'd be able to become more powerful than other people in the top-100 is to run for President. Now Adelson's back room BJs may well be rendered impotent. Adelson can dump all the dough he wants, who's his clown going to be who can beat this guy? Leo Krupe Posted August 11, 2015 #474 Share Posted August 11, 2015 Trumpster's already broken one campaign promise: to self-fund his run. http://www.crainsnewyork.com/article/20150810/BLOGS02/150819615/in-a-reversal-trump-seeks-presidential-campaign-donations#utm_medium=email&utm_source=cnyb-dailyalert&utm_campaign=cnyb-dailyalert-20150810 Donald Trump, who had originally planned to fund his presidential bid with his own money, is now accepting campaign donations. When he announced his candidacy in June, Mr. Trump declared: "I'm using my own money. I'm not using the lobbyists. I'm not using donors. I don't care. I'm really rich." He later pegged his net worth as greater than $10 billion, though credible outside estimates peg the figure at less than half that.
F3SS Posted August 11, 2015 #475 Share Posted August 11, 2015 I expected that would happen but so far it's a far cry from being bought and paid for by lobbyists. These are his everyday supporters donating a few bucks here and there. We'll see what happens.
