Leo Krupe Posted August 21, 2015 #551 Share Posted August 21, 2015 Poor Leo, if you just realize that, "God trumps Science" and "Faith trumps Reason" then all of that stuff would make perfect (common) sense. How can I argue with that irrefutable logic? Certainly not rationally, that's for sure.

Jack Skellington Posted August 22, 2015 #555 Share Posted August 22, 2015 Common sense, as in controlling (i.e. trying to ban) birth control, over 50 votes in the House to repeal Obamacare, gerrymandering congressional districts to disenfranchise voters, cutting taxes on the wealthy while raising them on the poor, fighting illegal wars (and not paying for them either), outing a spy, denying climate change (and in fact trying to make it illegal --somehow, by restricting the language), avoiding any number of other scientific facts.....I can go on, you know. That sort of common sense? Is that what you mean by "common sense"? Well, well, well... Common misconceptions. Common mischaracterizations. Common lies. 1. Who is trying to ban birth control? Please provide a link. 2. Obamacare is a complete disaster. They still can't get the website working in California. Did costs go down? Did you get to keep your insurance? Did you get to keep your doctor? Is everyone insured now? 3. He who holds the knife slices the pie.... that's how it always works. Was it different when the democrats were shifting congressional districts? Newsflash... they lost. And as Brack Obummer says- "elections have consequences." 4. Republicans want lower taxes for everyone. 5. The wars were authorized by a democrat controlled congress.... and after seven years of Obama-- we're still in them. There's a whole lot of things he isn't paying for... just look at what he's done to the national debt. 6. Outing a spy? Oh-- you mean Hillary's emails? 7. Global warming? We neither sent nor received any temperatures that were classified as warm. 8. Avoiding any number of boring, overused, worn out liberal accusations.... I can go on.

Leo Krupe Posted August 22, 2015 #558 Share Posted August 22, 2015 Sounds rather Newspeak. You mean the republicans have been trying to make even thinking about climate change impossible by removing the words "Climate" and "Change" from the language? Yes.And just so you don't accuse me of using only liberal sources, here are nine of them: http://www.motherjon...-climate-change Last month it was in Florida, where former staffers with the state's Department of Environmental Protection alleged that senior officials, under the direction of Gov. Rick Scott ®, had instituted an unwritten ban on using the phrases "climate change" and "global warming." Scott denied the claim. http://www.newsweek....end-born-321008 Wisconsin state officials on Tuesday banned employees of a state agency from discussing climate change, conducting any work on the topic, or even responding to an email about the warming climate, Bloomberg News reports. The ban applies to state employees who work for an agency that oversees a Wisconsin public land trust. The effort was spearheaded by State Treasurer Matt Adamczyk, a Republican, and enacted by a vote of Wisconsin’s Board of Commissioners of Public Lands. http://www.theguardi...-climate-change You might have missed it, but Florida has solved climate change. Our state, with 1,300 miles of coastline and a mean elevation of 100 feet, did not, however, limit greenhouse emissions. Instead, the state’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), under Republican governor Rick Scott, forbade employees from using terms like “climate change,” “global warming” or “sea-level rise”. They’re all gone now. You’re welcome, by the way. http://www.newrepubl...t-halted-action From years of reporting on government employees, I know that they're in it for the long haul. Governors and news cycles come and go. The public's attention is beagle-fickle. But there are 25 years to go before pension. So I wasn't expecting any heroes to rock the boat from inside the vast bureaucracy that is Florida's government when I began to investigate the silent treatment given the terms "climate change" and "global warming" within state agencies. http://www.huffingto..._b_6882110.html Florida has banned the phrase "climate change," at least as far as the staff of the state's environmental agency are concerned. Also "global warming." And "sustainability" is verboten, too, according to an investigative report in the Miami Herald. http://www.miamihera...le12983720.html In 2013, Jim Harper, a nature writer in Miami, had a contract to write a series of educational fact sheets about how to protect the coral reefs north of Miami. ‘We were told not to use the term climate change,’ he said. ‘The employees were so skittish they wouldn’t even talk about it.’ John Van Beekum For the Miami Herald http://www.cnn.com/2...-change-banned/ That appears to be the policy of Florida Gov. Rick Scott's administration, according to a report from the Florida Center for Investigative Reporting that suggests state environmental officials were directed not to use the term "climate change" after the Republican took office in 2011. "We were told not to use the terms 'climate change,' 'global warming' or 'sustainability,'" said Christopher Byrd, an attorney for the Department of Environmental Protection from 2008 to 2013. "That message was communicated to me and my colleagues by our superiors in the Office of General Counsel." http://ecowatch.com/...climate-change/ The idea that you can make climate change go away by not talking about it is spreading. One month ago, we heard how officials and staff at the Florida Department of Environmental Protection were ordered not to use the terms “climate change” or “global warming” even when they were discussing the all-too-obvious impacts to their vulnerable state. http://www.scientifi...climate-change/ The state treasurer in Wisconsin declined to explain his views about climate change a day after leading the effort to ban a small state agency from talking about rising temperatures. Leo Krupe Posted August 22, 2015 #559 Share Posted August 22, 2015 Trump is making a big deal of the fact he copyrighted the slogan, "Make America Great Again". So what? It's the simplest thing in the world to copyright something. Just write it. My grocery list is copyrighted every time I make it out. Interestingly, Trump doesn't mention he registered the copyright, which maybe he did, maybe he didn't, but funny that he doesn't say that. I mention that because it's another example of meaningless braggadocio from the hot air machine meant to impress, but when you examine it, it falls apart like a head of rotten lettuce. Jack Skellington Posted August 22, 2015 #565 Share Posted August 22, 2015 Your link-- Why do you insist on being dishonest in your posting Leo? Cruz didn't say anything nasty about little Jimmy at all. He made the comparison between the Obama administration and the Carter administration, and he was right about it. "I think where we are today is very, very much like the late 1970's. I think the parallels between this administration and the Carter administration are uncanny, same failed domestic policy, same misery, stagnation and malaise, same feckless and naive foreign policy. In fact, the exact same countries, Russia and Iran, openly laughing at and mocking the president of the United States." But you want to pretend that makes him evil. Go peddle your lies somewhere else... I suggest Cuba. You know- that place Ted's father fled from, to come to America?

Dear old Ron Reagan's "I have just signed legislation to outlaw Russia" was obviously a joke; this really doesn't look like one, and besides, even if it was, doesn't the fact that she might have thought to even make a joke of it say all you need to know about her character? .

Please justify his criticism about Jimmy Carter just after Carter disclosed he's dying of cancer. And Cruz cracked a joke about Biden after Beau Biden died. Class act. I think the glaring difference here that all those liberal sources didn't account for is that Cruz didn't bomb Carter. The only bright spot to Bush's foreign policy in 2007 R's could come up with was that because of our tough preemptive attack on Iraq, Qaddafi swore off the interest in WMDs and was now one of the good guys. Benghazi was a known hot spot for Al Qaeda for years and suddenly we're dropping bombs on Libya for them, eventually illegally when the War Powers Resolution time limit expired and Obama punted. If we care about the country or the regime to enough to bomb the hell out of it, how's the new regime? How's Libya doing today? Nobody knows because nobody cares. We just commit acts of mass murder, violate national sovereignty and international law and then not even care about the aftermath. Qaddafi was murdered by terrorist thugs in the street. Alarming and disgusting. But there's emails...so.... If we were genuinely fighting for Al Qaeda I don't know how the foreign policy in Libya could look any different. ellapenella Posted August 22, 2015 #572 Share Posted August 22, 2015 Saddam & Qaddafi were both strong men that knew how to handle the radicals/rebels . Makes sense as to why they were. Nato destroyed Libya by taking Qaddafi out of power. I don't know who messed up Syria, but it's a disaster. We do enough to empower the rebels, we give their spark fuel and oxygen and cause civil wars in the countries whose regimes we don't like very much. And then it's as if we're satisfied with the results, although the selective outrage over certain head choppings does challenge our satisfaction somewhat. I'd like to question Mrs. Clinton about Qaddafi and Libya, not email. What some department staffer wrote in an email years ago isn't nearly as interesting to me as what Hillary Clinton actually says right now. But nobody asks her any questions. If there's one aspect of our government that's truly bipartisan, it's having an evil foreign policy.
Leo Krupe Posted August 22, 2015 #575 Share Posted August 22, 2015 LOL, you sound just like Nancy Pelosi! Still waiting for that link. *taps foot* ..and as you would say: Links to Republicans wanting to ban birth control? Here you go: From 2012: http://www.usnews.co...n-birth-control This is about a Republican party actively campaigning against contraception, something that is enormously popular with the electorate. I would love nothing more than Mitt Romney going around the country telling voters he wants to take their birth control away, which he's pretty much doing already. Seriously dude, bring it. From 2013: http://www.cosmopoli...-birth-control/ When it comes to our uteri, Congress's Republicans seem really confused: They want to restrict abortion on a national scale, but they also don't want to allow women access to birth control to help prevent pregnancy in the first place. In 2014, they flip-flopped, and decided to go for over the counter contraception: http://thehill.com/p...pay-off-for-gop But did they really flip-flop? From The Hill article: GOP candidates around the country are saying they want to make the pill available over the counter without a doctor's prescription for the first time since it was approved in 1960. The party hopes its stance, widely shared by healthcare providers, will help neutralize tough debates over birth control coverage and cut into Democrats' traditional advantage among women voters. I wonder. And from 2015: http://www.msnbc.com...ception-posture As longtime readers may recall from last fall, this may seem like a reasonable resolution to an ugly mess. If anti-contraception employers don’t want to cover birth control as part of employees’ health plan, and religiously affiliated employers have moral objections to insurers’ paperwork, this over-the-counter approach makes the purchases more direct: if the FDA approves contraceptive medications for over-the-counter sales, it wouldn’t matter what employers, insurers, or even physicians like or dislike. Sounds okay, right? Take a closer look. Note, for example, that the whole point of the Obama administration’s policy is to make contraception accessible and affordable: if birth control is available without a co-pay through Americans’ health care plan, consumers don’t have to worry about cost.In other words, the Gardner solution tells poor women, “If you want birth control, go buy it. If you can’t afford it, good luck.”
