New computer operates like the human brain

A new brain-like computer called 'memcomputer' could help solve the world's most enduring maths problems.

Developed by a team led by theoretical physicist Massimiliano Di Ventra from the University of California in San Diego, the new computer shuns conventional microchip designs in favor of special 'memprocessors' which both process and store data in much the same way as neurons in the brain.

Wonderful. Our future A.I. overlords will doubtless view this as a key moment in their rise to dominance over their creators. Nice that they will have no egos so they won't ever be embarrassed about being created by such pathetic carbon-based lifeforms.

Perhaps it is computers of this type of design, more closely mimicking the brain, that will lead to further developments in neural computer interfacing and better VR simulations.
