Take a mental photograph of a little girl herding some sheep to a little pond. How many sheep are there?

No cheating. :) If you know how many sheep there are when you take the mental snapshot, that's cheating.

I maintain that if you don't see how many sheep there are when you take the mental snapshot (1,2,3,4,...I'm not sure how many sheep you can have that are countable when you take the snapshot) it is impossible to count how many sheep.

All of the sheep thief's sheep have numbers painted on their sides.

:) Even with numbers painted on their sides, looking at your mental picture again, can you really see every numbered sheep without intentionally re-numbering them?

I have to leave for a few hours. I'm just saying that a mental image (unless it's very small) is like peripheral vision, the center is clear and distinct, but the farther away from the center we try to see objects, the more fuzzy and indistinct they are. This is why it may be difficult to count the sheep. I read this in a book. :)

Yes. They're combat sheep and are arranged in 15 rows of 23 sheep with their commander in front.
