I have to wonder if the laptop, among personal data, contained case notes from Sandusky in 1998. Long shot but just a thought

I think it could have had notes about Sandusky's later activities or even Christopher Lee's. It would make sense that RG kept an ear to the ground  about Sandusky and perhaps had heard some disturbing stuff. And no--that wouldn't have made him into a heap of quivering guilty jello and go jump off a bridge. For a career prosecutor, learning more could lead to a successful prosecution this time. Lee's case came to light just after RG disappeared.

Child sex abuse is not always the hidden shameful secret that we are led to believe. A man like Sandusky may appear to be a single abuser, but chances are he knows others like himself though the exchange of child porn or other activities. If RG had discovered the wrong person was involved in child sex abuse, that might have been motive to get rid of him.

Just sayin'--it would be nice if we heard from 2-B or JKA at some point.

If 1oldtrooper is correct, the reason RG had the laptop with him was he intended to go into the office when he got back. That makes more sense than destroying the computer and then leaving it to be found. And frankly, why would RG keep files so dangerous on a work computer when he could use the one at home?  It was in my view a routine search to figure out what to do about the computer or what questions to ask IT when the time came. The fact that the laptop was "missing" and then conveniently found is the only thing that makes the search of any interest.

Well I don't think the info that Gricar intended to go into the office is correct info..

Also, I wouldn't assume that the files contained dangerous info.; at this point, I consider it as info. that Gricar- for some unknown reason- didn't ever want retrieved, and it appears to me it never could/would have been retrieved and therefore, known by another/others, regardless of his disappearance.

I think we do not know what Gricar intended. And I agree--whoever disposed of the laptop might have done so either as a decoy or on the off-chance there was something on it. But I believe that RG was murdered so I see the laptop issue in that light. I don't see the laptop as providing "evidence" of what happened but rather as an indicator of what likely did not happen:  RG was not the kind of man to destroy state property. If he were despondent and suicidal, he would have (based on what we know of his character) have taken care of the laptop in a normal way, via the IT department or a computer expert. If he wanted to "walkaway,"--same deal. Wipe the hard drive or better yet, just switch it out. Replace it. Leave the computer in the closet. Then walk away. The laptop destruction is anomalous. The destruction of the laptop isn't necessary for RG to kill himself or for him to walkaway. He can replace the hard drive. Such destruction is not in character for RG, as others who knew him well have said. So I conclude that it is most likely that whoever killed RG destroyed the laptop.

^ There's no known pattern to such behavior and so no, I wouldn't consider such behavior as in character, just the result of his thinking at the time.

^ Well, what I meant was that I know of no info. to show that such disregard for other people's property was a 'way of life', however, I think it's possible there may actually be precedent of such, heck if I know!

I do think that if considered in proper context, that he'd dispose of the laptop as it was does make sense.

Anyway, it sounds to me like the one thing we agree on- that everyone can agree on- is that there was info on the laptop that Gricar didn't want known, which I think is the most interesting aspect.

Agree to a point. I think it's likely that he just wanted to remove any personal data and work profit before retirement.

The staging of events, both before and (especially) after the disappearance of Ray Gricar, has always bothered me.... staging by the acting and successive DAs, staging by the Attorney General, staging by family and friends.  I have always felt alone and left out somehow, except when Tony Gricar was around.  Will Tony be around on Saturday in State College?  I can make a special trip.....and Tony, you already have my email address.

We most certainly do not agree.  Your analysis assumes facts not in evidence.  Gricar's laptop was (supposedly) eventually found in the river, near the bridge, by some as yet unidentified fisherman.

Hearing chirps that Victor Thorn is dead? Anyone confirm that? The old timers will remember who he is.

Yup... and the circumstances surrounding his death are shady.

^ I'd question the terminology. (In other words, I wouldn't read anything into it.)

I've come across multiple articles backing it up. Specifically, "two secret service agents" administered the polygraphs. Furthermore, the hard drive was sent to the Secret Service after it was recovered before it was sent to the FBI. What is the Secret Service's interest in the Ray Gricar disappearance?

Well, I would think their only would interest would be to assist an investigation in which ever way was requested.

Well, for some reason, I'd thought it was the state police who'd performed the poly's...

I recall the info. that there was a profiler who'd interviewed witnesses and I'm sure I presumed he was from the FBI...Anyway...

I think it speaks well for the local authorities and their investigation that they'd request outside help. I mean, I'm sure there are cases where authorities heads are/were too big to ask for help or to accept it when offered.

I was looking for a reason as to why the Secret Service and not the FBI would be the ones to administer a polygraph and gets first dibs on the hard drive. I guess this is one possible explanation:

I am wondering if this might hold any possibility.

The remains were found five days ago about 90 miles, 2 hour drive,  from Lewisburg, not far from Harrisburg.   4/15/05 was a day when PA prosecutors were attending an award ceremony in Harrisburg, so have always kept that area in mind as holding possibility.  Not certain whether RG had any plans for venturing into that area, but because he may have gotten into another vehicle, leaving the Mini parked in the SOS lot, taken his laptop with him, I've always thought the possibility existed for whatever was on the laptop going to a higher up in PA.  Most likely delivery point would then be Harrisburg.

I saw this as well and is eerily close to my location. Also close to this location is Fuller Lake, Laurel Lake, Pine Grove Furnace Park, and Poles Steeple.  15-20 miles south is Gettysburg which I recall someone mentioning that Fornicola had a relative there.

That looks promising! (In a sad way, naturally. But in terms of this case...)
