Won't the ancient tomb curse protect everything?

Nah, the British carried off the Curse long ago. All that is left is a Sniffle. That's not going to deter anyone.

You should only be worried if you violates the tomb.

You... Didn't viilate the tomb, right?

All who violate the Tomb of Hawass of the Antiquities will suffer the Man-Flu of The Pharaohs.

It would also seem to me that IR scanning should detect subtle differences in the surface temperatures between solid walls and walls with hollows behind them, even if the walls were fairly thick.

IR testing now suggests several rooms.

No, that won't work because it's all underground stone. Everything's the same temperature.

Booya!

At the risk of being wrong, I think that if they had real proof they would have trumpeted it all over the news with photos.

Right now, Egypt's in a bad position. Russia's refusing to let tourists in, other tourists are stranded by flight cancellations (and are angry) just at the time when the economy (driven by tourism) was starting to pick up. They're gearing up for a "come to beautiful and safe Egypt" campaign (and the country itself is safer than many parts of the US) and so they're trying to focus on things that will bring people there.

A "nope. Nothing" statement won't keep the positive side of Egypt in the news. They need another find to focus on. I think they'll make a big noise about the start of any research but will then keep it low key unless something is found. So an announcement about "scanning the pyramid" and then nothing really in the popular press.

I could be wrong. This is just a guess based on my recent trip.

The Pyramid scanning project, as far as I gather, will be carried out in collaboration with Nagoya University. Assistant Professor Kunihiro Morishima went on record to explain the technology using muons, which he and his team will employ. Why wouldn't the university, and Morishima publish the results, whatever they are? If you suspect the Egyptian government of running the project as a marketing ploy, there is no reason or motive to induce the Japanese to collaborate at the risk of their academic reputation and integrity. You judged too harshly.

If you want international tourists and their money, you have to provide a safe, pleasant experience. If you are slack about things like airport security, it will bite you hard.

An archaeologist with whom we're familiar at the Field Museum specializes in marine archaeology as well as dendrochonology and other dating techniques. He's lectured at our museum and I've personally chatted with him (he is not affiliated with the museum itself). This fellow has extensive experience in Egypt and is well acquainted with Nick Reeves.

I've stated from the start that I see plausibility in the existence of unknown chambers in KV62 but I've expressed my outright skepticism about the Nefertiti angle. It seemed an odd stretch for Reeves (almost something like Hawass would say). Well, it turns out one of our ARCE board members in Chicago was recently talking with the above-mentioned marine archaeologist, who shared with our board member the likelihood that Reeves used the Nefertiti angle to gain media attention. It makes me feel better that Reeves himself might not be terribly serious about it, but a little sad that he felt he had to do this to garner attention.

We'll have to wait and see what further testing reveals. Recent thermographic analysis shows differences in temperatures (as an earlier post explained), so it's indeed possible that more chambers are in there. I just wouldn't expect to find Nefertiti back there. But I'd love to be proved wrong.

We need to run a book on what it might be..

A - Nefertiti

B - Various notable females.

C - a Old pharaoh etc

D - a Grain Silo!!

E - a set of ring transporters to go to the alien star ship (my personal wish that it was this or course I would have to eat humble pie for ribbing the 'aliens built it' crowd)

F - Whiskey still

G - Detailed drawings of Vergina

H - The original codex Freemasonry writings

I - a gilded miniature replica of the Madder Sphinx atop the cap for a CO2 cold water geyser.

J - Nothing, the statuary and artifacts have been moved. They are currently decorating a Bathroom in Southern Appalachia (Northern Georgia to be more precise).

I'm hoping for a combination of F&G though I would not be surprised by J...

O - Eloi and Morlocks

Preliminary results of Tutankhamun tomb’s Infrared and Radar Scan

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Antiquities Minister Dr. Mamdouh Eldamaty announced a while ago the preliminary results of the scanning works performed inside King Tutankhamun Tomb in the past two days ago. The Radar and Infrared scan works reveal a vacancy behind the northern wall of the tomb which strongly indicates the existence of a new burial chamber. The announcement was made during the press conference held this morning at the Howard Carter Rest house – Valley of the Kings – Luxor.

Eldamaty clarified that the actual procedures inside the Gold Pharaoh will not start until all the data and information perceived by Radar and Infrared devices are carefully studied and analyzed by Japanese experts. A work plan will be set afterwards according to the information received, and then the work begins.

Eldamaty further elaborates that the teamwork has started the radar scan inside tomb KV5 that belongs to the sons of Ramses II to obtain different readings. This tomb was chosen in particular, added Eldamaty, because it does not contain any scenes nor inscriptions, also what lies beneath this tomb is already known, a matter that facilitates the comparison between it and that of King Tut.

Eldamaty finally added that the Tomb’s work plan will be announced after the Japanese expert finishes his works hoping that an enormous archaeological discovery will be declared soon..!!

I was signing in to provide an update and see poppet beat me to it. But I got this from an EEF mailing:

Radar Scans in King Tut’s Tomb Suggest Hidden Chambers

After two days of radar scans in the tomb of Tutankhamun, archaeologists have concluded that preliminary examination of the data provides evidence that unopened sections lie behind two hidden doorways in the pharaoh’s underground burial chamber...

This old threads is quite dusty, but I was doing some surfing and thought I could wrap this up.

The stunning conclusion to this quest? Well, read on:

Nefertiti Still Missing

So once again media hype borne of Egyptological fervor surrenders to reality. This is archaeology in the real world. I never once believed KV62 was the original resting place of Nefertiti, but I confess I was hoping for more chambers. And all I get is a whole lot of nothin.'

Isn't it odd how this story exploded onto the screen, filling the newspapers and magazines and the internet, driving everyone's curiosity. And then it ended with the greatest whimper of a fart.

Ah but the actual report was not issued out so that means they found a UFO! Actually it means the report will be embargoed until it is 'officially' published in a proper journal.

Silly. It wasn't a UFO. It was the geyser generator that had been handed down from generation to generation, since the time of the pyramids.

By the time Tut took the throne pyramids were already ancient, of course, but he thought the old geyser generator worked just great as a bidet. He insisted it be included in his afterlife kit.

Excellent I would suggest that we petition Cladking to add that to his canon of ancient Egyptian made up belief:hmm:s! It fits right in!

Oh how much better things like a bidet or a simple spraying device is than toilet paper.  That is the one reason I use to dread having to visit America.

Necroposting my own thread!

And here I thought this whole KV62 business had been laid to rest. I was reading some Egyptian archaeology news online and came across this (Feb. 2017):

Is There a Secret Chamber in King Tut's Tomb? A Final Hunt Will Investigate

So now the Italians are going to play, at some point "later this year." It's in conjunction with high-end imaging projects taking place in the Valley of the Kings. We'll see what they find, if anything. As of the last analysis it wasn't promising, but I like that advanced scientific imaging has become so integral with Egyptology.

Well, of course. That's where Nefertiti is. Reeves's theory is clearly wrong because that "tomb" in Turkey is just loaded with Luxor Casino props ancient Egyptian antiquities.

So who might be in the secret chambers behind Tut's tomb? I'm positing that it's Nefertiti's little-known younger sister, Nefertitty.
